To Kill A Mockingbird Missing Scenes
In the book, To Kill A Mockingbird, Harper Lee wrote about Scout's first day of
school with Miss Caroline. I was very confused on why they left out this scene and
character. I am confused because she is part of a very important lesson Scout learns
later in the story/movie. The theme this scene goes with is taking someone else's
P.O.V. As I was the last to leave, I saw her sink down in her chair and bury her head in
her arms. Had her conduct been more friendly toward me, I would have felt sorry for
her.(Lee,29).This quote shows that Scout felt bad for the way she acted and that Miss.
Caroline was having a hard time on her first day of teaching. For these reasons I feel
like they should have added this scene.
There was also a very important character missing from the movie, Miss Dubose.
She was a very important character because she taught Jem and Scout many lessons.
I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a
man with a gum in his hand. (Lee,149). This quote shows that miss dubose was a
woman fighting addiction even though she knew she wasn't going to stop. This teaght
Jem that courage is fighting even though you're going to lose. This is why I feel that it
was wrong of you to leave the scene out.
