SolarInnovations - Social Business Plan Executive Summary

The most important aspect of a business plan is to spot the problem it is going to
solve and identify the need it is going to fulfill along with earning high profits.
The sector that will be tapped is solar sector which seems to have seamless
opportunities. With varied applications of solar energy and large size of market, it is
important to decide the type of business one can enter. The Indian solar energy
sector has been growing rapidly, in the past few years, majorly due to
Governments initiatives such as tax exemptions and subsidies. Due to technical
potential of 5,000 trillion kWh per year and minimum operating cost, Solar Power is
considered the best suited energy source for India. Today the Solar power has an
installed capacity of 9.84 MW which is about less than 0.1 percent of the total
installed renewable energy of Indias currently total installed renewable energy
stands at 13,242.41 MW as per MNRE1.
Business Model:
We would be buying surplus electricity from the farmers in the state of Rajasthan
who have installed solar pump for irrigation purpose, as it is surplus electricity we
can get it at a considerably lower price, aggregate and store the electricity bought
from the farmers and sell it to grid i.e. The concerned State/Center Government.
The location to carry out this business proposition would be Rajasthan for the two
basic reasons, first there is immense potential for solar sector with more than
20,000 solar pumps being installed in the state and secondly the need and demand
of electricity in rural households in the state is immense.
To enable extraction of residual solar energy from solar pumps, a sophisticated grid
development needs to be undertaken. The setting up of grid would be outsourced as
per our asset free organization structure with core focus being on procuring and
selling electricity. Organizations like Tata Power Solar have already worked on a
similar project for Bank of Baroda in Gujarat and can develop custom solar power
grid system for the organization. To partner with Tata Solar Power, it will require to
provide smart grid connection for storage of electricity to three districts of
Rajasthan.
