BTT - Functions in Excel (Average, MIN, MAX, and Count)

Complete the following exercise in MS Excel to practice using functions.

1. Google NHL Standings. Choose a division for your spreadsheet (Atlantic, Metropolitan,
Central, or Pacific).
2. Copy the standings into a new spreadsheet, and give your spreadsheet an appropriate
title, similar to the example below.
3. Save your spreadsheet as NHL Standings - your name. (*Be sure to save this file in
your H:Drive inside the Spreadsheets folder)
Your spreadsheet should look like this (depending on the division you chose):

4. Use the functions in Excel to fill in values for the cells highlighted in red above.

*Reminders:
Formulas must begin with an equal sign (=)
Cell ranges must be contained within parentheses (B3:B9)
=AVERAGE will find the average of a range of cells, without you having to know how
many entries are within the range.
=MAX will find the highest value in a range of cells
=MIN will find the lowest value in a range of cells
=COUNT will count the number of entries in a range of cells (*In this assignment, the
COUNT should be 8 every time, as there are 8 teams in each division, but I wanted you
to see how this function works.)
