B. Technical Requirements

Before making a letter of request for a certificate of employment, make sure that you have
specified the details that you need. Most companies have their own standard format of making an
employment certificate though it may seem complete, some important details may not be on it
unless requested. These are the important details that you may want to have reflected on the
certificate: 1. Your correct name. This may seem unusual but some people are having problems

with documents because of a misspelled name. Also if you are one of those who have hispanic
name, make sure that your name is properly reflected (e.g. Maria Pretty Lovable, instead of Ma.
Pretty Lovable). 2. The start date and end date of your employment. Some companies may only
reflect the end date or the start date alone since the number of years is already reflected on the
certificate. Still, some employers are too oriented with details and this may cause you to ask for a
new certificate. 3. Your job position/s in the company. Okay, this may seem tricky. Make sure
that the position/s stated will turn to your favor. So if your postion in the company is on an
ascending manner (rank-and-file to the management team), make sure that you specifically
request for the detailed certificate with all the positions and the date on each. Now if your
position is degrading (from sales manager to a sales man) then you may want to ask only for
those times that you served as a manager, or a sales man, depening on the position that you are
applying to right now. 4. Give them ample time to prepare for the request. Do not expect your
request to be prepared overnight. Give at least a week-long allowance if possible. You may
follow this format: December 06, 2013 Ronna Olay HR Manager, Fast Company Ontario, USA
Dear Ms. Olay, Good day. I, Maria Cecilia Cullens, would like to make a request for a certificate
of employment. Also,I would be more than happy if you indicate the following on the certificate:
1. Please make sure that my name is stated as Maria, not Ma. 2. The positions that I had in the
company and the length of time that I am having that position. 3. Personal comment is very
much welcomed. I believe that I have been a help to the company on the years of my stay there. I
hope you enjoyed my stay as much as I enjoyed it. I am positive that our paths shall cross again.
Sincerely, Maria Cecilia Cullens.
