Hydrophobic Blocking Ingredient

Master Pel 730

Properties related to waterproofing

Porosity size and number of pores

Permeability interconnectivity of capillaries

Water movement inside the concrete has to do with its permeability which is
closely related to the total porosity and its distribution in the cementitious matrix of
concrete

Pores and capillaries

3 INTERNAL
Concrete facts

Porosity of concrete has a strong correlation with the water/cement ratio

and is dependent mainly on
the mix design
the workability and compaction of fresh concrete
curing practice

Concrete durability is closely linked to water intrusion and movement rates

Internal water plays the role of the carrier for harmful substances that
can have deleterious effects on the concrete and steel

BASFs hydrophobic pore blockers as a
sustainable water resisting solution
Master Pel 730
Based on a nano-chemistry, BASF now has a innovative, intelligent
hydrophobic water resisting offer:
Master Pel 730, a liquid based admixture which transforms concrete
into a waterproof material
This is based on organic materials and act at a nano level
Master Pel uses the free lime to form hydrophobic insoluble salts which line
the walls of capillaries by adsorption
The reduced cohesion forces between the water and the walls of capillaries
discourages the phenomenon of capillary absorption (suction).
Master Pel reduces water absorption and permeability, both
As is normal practice, used in conjunction with a HRWR (superplasticizer
GLENIUM or RHEOBUILD POZZOLITH combinations) they help in
significant reduction of the pore number, their size and their
5 INTERNAL
Chemical Action

Calcium Hydroxide reacts with Fatty Acid

Forms an insoluble highly hydrophobic Compound
The capillaries and micro cracks are lined with this water repellent
material
