 Art Work: Mural in Ecuador
Ecuador is one of the most beautiful countries around the world and that is because the
entire country is bathed in a lot of different colors such a bright reds, lush greens, deep
blues and others.
All this color is owing in great majority to the street art that we can find in a lot of
places in different cities such a Quito or Otavalo and it could be a graffiti or a mural. In
this document we are going to talk about how the murals painted in Quito send a special
message to the society.
The different murals that were painted in Ecuador generate social, political and cultural
awareness because try to show how are the society, how the politics affects those most
in need, the current problems that the country is living and all historical cultural events
that happened or are happening at this time.
Ecuador has a lot of mural artist, for example Oswaldo Guayasamn and Eduardo
Kingman, they make a lot of different works, the Oswaldo Guayasamn work is in
majority about the indigenous people and all the suffering that they had to live but
currently, a lot of young artist start to show their works and one of the most popular is
Apitatn.
His name is Juan Sebastian Aguirre, He is 28 years old and He lives in Monteserrin in
the north of Quito. Apitatn paint murals in different parts of Quito and around the
country, he started painting in 2012 and he made himself know with the sign that he
made in his murals. Apitatn has made of his neighborhood a canvas for his murals, in
this place he painted murals such as The Guardian of Yasun, Happiness cant be
bought, The Guardian of the harvest and others such as Amazon Balance in The Yasun
Scientific Station or Hanging Man in La Floresta.
Apitatn have traveled to Mexico, USA to participate in different events and it makes
that he grow up in his professional life, currently his murals are dedicate to express the
troubles that Yasun is suffering for the petrol exploitation.
We choose the mural The Guardian of Yasun to make a description and a brief
comparison in this document, we selected this art work because sends a special message
about how the human is destroying the nature of Ecuador, the nature that made known
Ecuador.
 Description

Guardians of Yasun by Apitatn

It was painted in Quito at Monteserrin

We were interested in this kind of art because it express a lot of things that we have to
consider to live in peace and harmony with the world.
This mural is surprising for all the colors that are used and because it demonstrate the
interculturality that exists in the Amazon Region in this place we can find the Huaorani
Tribe, the man in the mural is from this tribe.
We are amazed with the communication that is expressed on the mural, the
communication between the human and the animal, we can see the expression in the
Huaorani face, it express happiness and how he feel amazed and moved for the beauty
of the bird.
This mural is really stunning for geometric perspective used by Apitatn.
We are absorbed by the technique that Atitatn used. Its very difficult do a good work
with the light and shades to make the work quite realistic

the place where it was paint is more wide

of different techniques
Guardians of Yasun mural is as important as Glasgow High Street mural
because both have a special mean.
St Mungo in Glasgow High Street mural is less cartoon than huaorani in
Guardians of Yasun mural.
Glasgow High Street mural is less natural than Guardians of Yasun because
Guardians of Yasun mural needs we know how important is we take care
Yasun.
 Conclusions
The mural is a way to communicate something that the artist considers important
and it can be shown to everybody.
Atitatn is a young Ecuadorian artist who makes graffiti
Guardians of Yasun is one of the most important mural because of it give
message of protection to wild life and tribes that is a part of the culture in our
country
We were interested on this mural by colours and technique used
Glasgow High Street mural by Smug is a another mural on the world and we
notice some differences and similarities
The Huaorani wore the traditional cloth and drawings of his tribe on his face , it
fascinated us because it is identity, the man was really happy because he was in
his environment interacting with all the nature.
