scrap paper, tape/glue

Academic Language:
- Creative Problem Solving: approaching a problem in a creative and innovative way
- Divergent Thinking: a thought process or method used to generate creative ideas
- Transformation:

Procedures (Appx. 4-5 class days):

Day 1: The class will discuss artistic/creative thinking, and how the arts helps develop divergent
thinking strategies that are highly sought after in the professional world. We will introduce the
project, and the idea of a transformation/metamorphosis. The students will brainstorm how two
objects can transform into each other on a sheet of scrap paper. They should have at least 3
ideas.
Day 2: Students will draw their best idea onto a long strip of paper. They must do this lightly in
pencil, to keep the paper neat if they make a mistake. When they are finished drawing all six
stages, they will trace over their drawings in ultra-fine sharpie marker.
Day 3-4/5: Students will color their transformation drawings in colored pencil. They will learn to
blend two colors together, and must use this new skill at least twice in their images.
