GSLS 4K NEWS VALENTINE-MAIL-BOXES 2-12-17

Valentines Day preparations yielded much creativity these past couple weeks

Each child brought in a shoe-type box which they decorated. First, using their
choice of colored construction paper, they cut and glued paper-coverings over

2-6 faces of their boxes. The cutting, while simple for adults, required our
young students spatial reasoning, and coordinated use of their hands, eyes,
arms and finger muscles to fit 2-D paper onto their 3-D boxes. The gluing
challenged all the 4K-ers, too, because doing so required them to squeeze-hard
and simultaneously press-hard the spring-valve glue-bottle-caps numerous times,
making dots and lines to fully secure their chosen paper. Markers, stickers,
glitter, hearts, cotton, cut-outs, words, shapes and letters thoughtfully chosen
by the kids further embellished their boxes in patterns unique to each child.
And they all further chose to construct and mount a flag bearing their name
(either in stick-on letters or hand-printing) to guide their school-mates
delivery of Valentines directly to their boxes with no ambiguity whatsoever!
After sawing their flag, and lettering it
decoratively, children had to create a
mounting hole using a screw driver and a
hammer. Then they slathered glue on the
pole bottom and pounded it into place to dry.
But this is just the beginning of the fun.
Next comes more deliveriesand the many
Valentine openings!!
