1. Describe the stress and strain of office organization,


structure and management of an architects office in
sole proprietorship?
Sole proprietorship is a form of business where there is
only one owner and there is no legal distinction
between the business and the owner.
In architectural firm, a sole proprietorship, by definition,
is a firm owned by an architect i.e. is Principal, is a
licensed architect or one who shares ownership with
other architects in the firm.
Sometimes the principle is limited to the owners who
hold a certain percentage in ownership interest in the
firm.
Some firms may also use the title principal in charge
which means an architect who ministers firms services
regarding a specific project.
In such firm, the capital and other resources remain
limited.
2. What factors governs the choice of setting up an
architects office in partnership? Describe all
important terms and conditions of partnership.
Factors that govern the choice of setting up an architects
office in partnership are:
Different skills of different partners combine in order to
increase the workability.
In case of loss, the partners face the liability together
by reducing its impact on individual.
A partnership is an arrangement where parties, known
as partners, agree to cooperate to advance their mutual
interests and form a firm.
The partners in partnership may be individual, business,
and interest based organization.
The liability of each partner for the debts and other
resposiblity of the firm is equal.
No partner can assign or transfer his partnership to any
other member without pre information and approval
with the other partner.
Partnership firm is setup on the base of contracts or
agreements. Which confirms the ownership,
responsibility, liability and sharing of profit and loss (in
some case).
3. Difference between COA and IIA.
The Council of Architecture (COA)
It has been constituted by the Government of
India under the provisions of the Architects Act,
1972, enacted by the Parliament of India, which
came into force on 1st September, 1972.
The Act provides for registration of Architects,
standards of education, recognized
qualifications and standards of practice to be
complied with by the practicing architects.
The Council of Architecture is charged with the
responsibility to regulate the education and
practice of profession throughout India besides
maintaining the register of architects.
The Indian Institute of Architects (IIA)
It is the National body of Architects in the country.
Established in 1917.
The institute today has more than 20,000
members and plays a major role in promoting the
profession of architecture by organizing and
uniting the Architects of India to promote
aesthetic, scientific and practical efficiency of the
profession both in Practice and in Education.
IIA is associated with International Union of
Architects (UIA) Commonwealth Association of
Architects (CAA) and South Asian Association for
Regional Co-operation of Architects (SAARCH).
