Social Media: What Impact Does It Have?

Does social media have a positive or negative impact on the world?

Your opinion matters! We are going to use the writing skills you learned
during the narrative and literary essays to write a position paper. These are
also known as assertive arguments. A position paper voices your opinion.
However, to make your opinion valid you need to become well versed on the
topic. This means that your paper cannot be supported only by your
experiences. You must use evidence from the texts we read in class
to back up your opinion. We will work on each part of this in class.

How its going to happen:

1. First, you will become well versed on the topic by reading a
variety of texts.
2. Second, you will form your own opinion about social media and
the impact it has on the world.
a. (Positive or Negative)
3. Third, I will guide you through the writing process so your final
paper includes these elements:
a. Introduction paragraph that has a hook and thesis
b. Three body paragraphs that have specific evidence from
the articles and explanations in your own words
c. Conclusion paragraph that summarizes your paper and
restates your thesis
4. Fourth, you will revise your rough draft for word flow, transitions,
and grammar. This will be done through a writers workshop and
peer edits.
5. Fifth, you will make sure your final paper is in MLA Format,
contains a Works Cited, and has in-text citations.
