2. The answer to the questions are parts of the term paper.
3. In each sentence, you are given 15 seconds to answer.
4. Once you already have an answer, type it in the chat box.

Riddle with answers:

- I’m always with my buddies, the middle and the end. But I’m the first one you see
when you look at us three. What Am I? --- Introduction

- I may be the last, but I’ll be the one you’ll remember the most. What Am I? ---
Conclusion

- I give you what you need and keep you interested. I try to be honest and keep up
with the facts. What Am I? --- Body

IV. Discussion
● The discussion will focus on the three main parts of a term paper namely:
Introduction, body, and conclusion.
1. The Introduction
The introduction answers three important questions:
A. What is this?
B. Why am I reading this?
C. What do you want me to do?

To answer the following questions above, you must do

the following:
A. Set the context- Provide general information
about the main idea, explaining the situation so
the reader can make sense of the topic and the
claims that you make and support.
B. State why the main idea is important- Tell the
reader why they should care and keep reading.
Your goal is to create a compelling, clear, and
convincing essay people will want to read and
act upon.
C. State your claim/thesis- Compose a sentence or
two stating the position you will support with
logos (sound reasoning: induction, deduction),
pathos (balanced emotional appeal), and ethos
(author credibility)

2. The Body
At this point in your paper, you will be relying a lot more
your outline. However, it is important to remember that
your outline is not meant to restrict you. It is just a guide
to help keep you on track. You may notice that your
paper evolves a little bit more from your outline. That’s
fine. Just remember to focus on your thesis and your
Major points.

3. The Conclusion
In the conclusion, mention your thesis statement, but
make sure to reword it. Also, provide a brief summary
of your major points. You may also discuss why you
think your topic may benefit from further research,
especially if your findings are inconclusive.

4. Reference List
Don’t forget to add a completed reference list at the
end.

5. Revising Your Draft

After you have completed your first draft, it’s time to
revise and edit it. Remember that the revision stage
is more than just checking for grammatical and spelling
errors.

Checklist: Editing the First Draft

★ Is your thesis statement clear and concise?
★ Do your ideas follow a logical sequence in each paragraph?
★ Are your sources properly cited?
★ Have you checked your accidental plagiarism?
★ Is your language clear and specific?
★ Have you checked for proper grammar, spelling and punctuation? (Hint:
Grammarly can help!)

V. Assessment
Short Evaluation
In this short assessment, the learners will assess as to whether or not the
introduction has served its purpose. They will do this orally by stating the
sentences/phrases found in the introduction that indicate 1) the context
2) the importance of the main idea and 3) the thesis statement.

Color Code:
● CONTEXT
● IMPORTANCE OF THE MAIN IDEA
● CLAIM and THESIS STATEMENT
Text: An excerpt from Franchise Theory, The Review of Franchise Theory

In service based industries one of the fastest growing forms

of market structure is that of franchise agreements. Certain
aspects of franchise contracts tend to be idiosyncratic in nature
thereby attracting a great deal of interest by academics and
business analysts in recent years. Various explanations have
been proposed for the widespread use of franchise contracts in
certain industries. While a great deal of the franchise contract
has been explained in the literature, there remains certain
aspects of this form of arrangement that has yet to be addressed.
This paper intends to address two of these issues as well as
proposing an alternative modelling approach to franchise
contracts.
● Why do you think such parts indicate the context, the importance of
the main idea, and the thesis statement?

VI. Valuing:
● Question:Why is it important to know the main parts of a term
paper?

VII. Assignment: Writing the First Draft (Scaffold 3)

Office of the President to do a research paper on a specific relevant
socio-cultural conflict. Together with your co-researchers, you are to go
