INTRODUCTION

Lifestyle is activities orthe way of living of the individuals, families, and societies,
which they are a sign of coping with their physical, psychological, social and economic
environments on daily basis. A technology will give an impact to the time consumption
of an activity which will also contributes to the energy used in an activity or a lifestyle.
As already emphasized by Becker (1965), technological progress has enabled a large
increase in the efficiency of the use of time spent on leisure activities and consumption.

Time is related to lifestyle. A busy lifestyle is affected by prolonged activity that

is being held. If a service can be produced in less time due to an increase in time
efficiency, households will have an incentive to demand more of this service and
substitute it for other services that are more time intensive in order to minimize the
forgone income from work. (Binswanger, 2004).
1.1 Problem Statement

Problems will occurred when doing house chores and maintenance work and when a
specific work required a lot of time and energy to be done. This will lead to time
division problems, physical problems, and also will lead to health problems especially.
Example of health problem that will cause by doing house chores or maintenance is
MSD (musculoskeletal disorder).

According to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (2000). Ergonomics: The

Study of Work. U.S. Department of Labor: OSHA 3125. Static postures or positions that
a worker must hold for long periods of time, can restrict blood flow and damage
muscles.

Technology is also a problem in worldwide. Research in innovation of technology

improvement has not been done globally. This is cause by the lack of ideas to contribute
in new innovation. Therefore, an innovation is really important to benefits the people by
increase the productivity of an activity.

1.2 Objective

a) To improve the productivity of appliances (mop, broom and paint roller).

b) To reduce time consumption of people in house chores.

1.3 Significant study

Wonder stick is an appliance for household that has been innovated and improvised from
the previous products that can be found in the market. Wonder stick is an appliance that
will help to decrease the time consumption of an activity by the user. It is using the
concept of physic pressure where a big size of syringe is located in the rod/stick itself.
Therefore, this will help the user to save time as there is no need of more appliances
needed for painting of mopping activity as the paint or soap water can be placed inside
the rod/stick. The head of the rod can be replaced with broom, paint roller and also mop.
This will increase to the productivity of the wonder stick as it will save time, save
storage and ease the work to be done.

1.4 Limitation

The limitation of this product is the material that is required in order for this product to
produce is available or not. It is very important to assure that the product is portable and
light weight and also affordable to be marketed. There are a lot of innovated mop,
improvised roller paint design that are available in the market. But, there is no product
that combined 3 appliances which are broom, mop and paint roller into 1 that available
in the market. Therefore, Wonder Stick can only be produced based on the available
materials that can be obtained from the market.

1.5 Scope of study

The study of this project is taken at Taman Cempaka, Ipoh Perak. This device is
produced to be used for house chores, finishing work and also cleaning. Therefore,
Taman Cempaka is a suitable place to conduct this study due to many residents that
occupied in this area.
