AUGUST RUSH: A movie review

In the movie, Evan’s parents were musicians, and they met through their music. Lyla was a
cellist and Louis was a rock singer. In the flashback, we see them meeting in Greenwich Village,
falling in love at first sight. They promise to meet again, but Lyla's stage father forces her to leave
town for her career, so they have no way to contact each other. Inevitably, she became pregnant,
but her father tells her the baby died, and ships Evan to an orphanage. His father thought that the
baby shouldn’t interfere with Lyla’s career.
1. Evan grew up without knowing who his parents were. Although Evan lived in an orphanage,
he didn’t think that his parents left him. He still hears them talking to him at night. He hears them
through the moon. Other ophans think that he’s being crazy and stupid to say such things, but he
didn’t care. Evan loves nature and the music he hears through the surroundings. Evan was
motivated to find his parents because he knows that they are out there looking for him. Through
the music he hears, he knows that he should find his parents. Music became his motivation in
finding his parents.
2. It wasn’t easy for Evan to look for his parents. First, he was already ready for adoption but
he is insisting that he doesn’t want a new family because he already has his own. Although he’s
parents are not with him, but he can hear them. He tried to escape the orphanage and ended up
in the streets. Another young musician met Evan and takes him back to an abandoned theatre for
shelter, where he and the other young lads live under the management of a character who is
called the Wizard. He sends his little army out into the streets every day, not as pickpockets but
as musicians. The runaway Evan sees some street musicians in Washington Square Park, picks
up a guitar and, despite having had no training, turns out to be a naturally gifted musician. Upon
hearing Evan play the guitar, he thought that he could make money out of him so he didn’t let any
chance to let Evan get away from him. Evan believing that Wizard was genuine to him thinks he
is good so he stayed with him. Until the end, Wizard became a hindrance in finally fulfilling his
dreams to play music in a big crowd and finding his parents.
3. All the years after Lyla believed that his child died, she didn’t feel like her own self anymore.
She thinks that something is off about her or rather thinking that something is missing in her life.
When his father was ill, he told Lyla that her child is alive. Lyla being so shocked immediately flew
back to New York to find his son. The knowledge of her child being alive motivated her to find him
even though she didn’t know his name and what her child looks like.
4. Louis, on the other hand, lived his life quietly in another place and trying to get back up by
dating other girls. But he still can’t forget about his only love, Lyla. He knows that his heart is still
beating for Lyla. He searched and tried to find her whereabouts to finally be with her again if she
still accepts him. His love for her became his motivation to search for her after many years of
being apart.
5. The concert featuring three artists including Evan “August Rush” and Lyla became the place
for reunion of their family. Lyla knew and Evan also knew immediately that they were family. The
movie ended suddenly by Evan looking back seeing his parents. If I were to visualize what
happened after, I would picture them having the tightest group hug ever. As for Louis, who doesn’t
know about his son yet, would be feeling happy and shocked. After the concert, surely they will
live together happily. With music running through their blood, I think they will have a concert
together. I imagine them making music, playing and singing together in one stage. That would be
the best ending yet.
