event that killed off 60% of the world's population. The two keepers appeared not too
long afterwards and, over the span of decades, restored much of the world to its former
self. 45% of those humans were revived, which created the first gifted individuals.
Her and Lightkeeper were joint rulers of the world (with Prime MInisters operating the
countries and answering to these two) until Lightkeeper died 3 years before the story.
The Peacekeepers are an international organization that help assert order and peace in
war-torn countries by providing humanitarian aid and acting as a police force. They serve
under The Timekeeper, who oversees all these forces.
This is all explained or implied within the play at different points.
Project Altius: A Psychological Thriller Story Summary
A Play by Alexander Greenslade
Prologue
The date is June 11th, and our story starts with Bryan Hayes, a teenager with
Dissociative Identity Disorder and the power to know things based off specifically worded
questions. He talks about the situation Americas in; most of the country is recovering from
losing The Great War (Washington D.C. is a nuclear wasteland, countries in debt), and the
victors (Russia, China and friends) are in the same boat as America.
He then talks about the day his life changed forever. Its May 25th, and his best friend
Roger White barges into his house. He convinces Bryan to join him in watching a speech at the
Heywood Amphitheater.
There, they hear Martin Washington, the speaker, talk about The Lightkeepers death, 3
years ago, an event that led to the Great War. Reported as a suicide, Martin believes that The
Timekeeper is responsible for his death.
After all, nothing pertaining to The Lightkeeper case has been released; no autopsy, no
security footage and the body has gone missing. To back up his story, he has Bryan retell his
testimony as he was at the site of the suicide (and has become famous for it).
Rick Harris, a former Peacekeeper, transitions into a story about one of The
Timekeepers secret agents; Clara Norton. The criticism of her fires up Roger & Bryan, leading to
an argument between Roger & Rick. Its hastily interrupted when two of the attendees pull out
assault rifles and one fires at Bryan. The bullet hits Roger instead.
The Timekeeper appears and freezes everyone. She brutally taunts the shooters, before
declaring that everyone but the two teens will be detained, until she can figure out the details.
Bryan comforts his now mortally wounded friend as he, back in the present, tells us that Roger
died on the way to the hospital.
Omar Hyperia, his caretaker, tells him that The Timekeeper will visit him in a week. Its to
deliver his newest batch of pills. He asks him if hes been taking his pills. Bryan says yes he
has, and when Omar leaves, he takes out a bottle and starts flushing the pills down the toilet.
Act One, Scene One
June 18th, we see a celebration of Cassius Zefanias promotion to Major in the
Peacekeeping Forces. The only one there is Clara Norton, a teenager recovering from PTSD.
He thanks her for being a great friend, and they toast to this.
The party is interrupted when Vice Minister Abraham Zefania walks into the room to pull
Clara out. In the next room. Prime Minister Alex Johnson tries to convince Timekeeper over
phone to pass a few bills for her, considering Timekeeper does this for members of Congress.
Clara and Abraham come in and they explain to Clara that she and three others will be apart of
a group name Project Altius, dedicated to combating the recent wave of domestic terrorism.
The Heywood Amphitheater incident is seemingly one of many.
Clara objects, but is told by Alex she has no choice but join; Aaron Neilson has gone
missing and The Peacekeepers aren't doing their jobs. She leaves and finds Cassius gone.
Clara bitterly decides to not fight against the ministers, and go along with their plans.
Act One, Scene Two
June 19th Bryan watches the news; The Journalist reports that the last attendee of The
Heywood Amphitheater has been were cleared of all charges. Martin also barges in uninvited, to
speak his anti-Timekeeper rhetoric. He hears a knock on the door, and answers. Norma Zefania
tells him shes a government agent, informing him about Project Altius. Bryan is immediately on
board with it.
Arriving at the base of operations, and were introduced to two other characters; Edgar
Backman, a teenager who can read others thoughts, and Heather Lombardi, a teenager who
can supernaturally fix people's wounds. They try to get to know each other before Norma calls it
a day and tells them to leave. Bryan and Edgar stay behind to have a short, awkward convo.
Now back at his house, Bryan notes that hes in an organization that, at his age,
probably shouldn't be in, but its ok; hes got his friend Clara with him. Plus Heather seems
pretty nice. Nothingness sleeps in his bed.
Bryan suddenly stops mid sentence, and Nothingness gets out of bed (Bryan exits).
Talking to the audience, he realizes the other one has been in control for a while, and mustve
slacked on taking the pills. He leaves to go party.
During this time, Norma enters a bar to hang out with Cassius. Him, his spouse Captain
Jack Watson, and their son Lance York, are celebrating the anniversary of The Great Wars
end. However Jack however, leaves in order to stop two of his soldiers from screwing. Lance
tries to comfort the now ex-girlfriend of one of the privates, but she blows him off, saddening
him.
Cassius and Norma privately talk, and we learn that Abraham is behind Cassius
promotion, Bryan was in Cassius and Jack's care, and Norma was out in Britain & Ukraine,
assisting Aaron Neilson with some... business, for the past year. The scene ends with General
Omar Hyperia (same guy, he owns the bar) popping in and demanding Cassius to help look for
Bryan. Nothingness, meanwhile, is forcing the ex is make out with him,
Act One, Scene Three
June 20th, Clara finds Bryan outside of her house, with no recollection of last nights
events. They talk about Roger, and according to them, he wasnt a nice person. She drives him
to the PA headquarters, and there, Norma tricks him into remembering last night.
Hes disgusted by this revelation, but not surprised. Clara and Heather comfort him
about this, while Omar, worried sick about his whereabouts, leaves the base. Heather promises
Bryan that hell be the first person she cures when she learns how to supernaturally fix mental
illnesses.
Afterwards, Norma ushers him and Edgar into the interrogation room. She informs Clara
and Heather of their first mission; convince members of an organization that calls itself The
ATC to peacefully return weapons stolen from the Marion Military Base. Clara is reluctant to go
along, but is forced by two agents.
We cut to four people (one of them Rick), members of the ATC, talking. Thats when
Clara enters. She tells them to surrender and hand over the guns stolen. The ATC members
have no idea what shes talking about. That's when one of the agents starts firing, only to die
and shoot out the lights. A gunfight in the dark occurs for 5 seconds. When the backup lights
come on, Clara is crawling towards the exit, and Heather is tightly gripping one of the agent's
gun. All but Rick are dead.
The Timekeeper enters, and discovers that the four survivors are in no condition to
explain whats going on. She takes them all to her palace in order to treat them. Meanwhile,
Bryan is in bed, noting that Heather is the kindest soul he met.
Thats when Omar enters, informing him that, due to Nothingness shenanigans, he had
to inform the media about Bryans condition, else he be labeled as an attempted rapist. Angered,
Bryan suggests curing his illness, but Omar insists they tried before, and nothing worked.
Act One, Scene Four
June 22nd, Heather informs Norma that her parents will be taking her out of Project
Altius, as well as suing the government. Tuning on the TV, Journalist tells us that this Senate
meeting will be concerning the infamous Project Altius. Senator Franklin, Speaker of the
House, grills Alex for using teenagers (two of them mentally ill) in the Project Altius operations.
Especially egregious is they were listed as temp. members to get funding. Alex defends herself,
claiming she ordered Norma not to use the members in any of the operations.
Timekeeper promises to investigate her claims, before she and Franklin set an
ultimatum; all underage members must be fired by June 28th. She dismisses the two ministers,
and in private, Alex grumbles about the government, while Abraham scolds her in his thoughts.
We follow Timekeeper back to Bryans house. Omar gives her reports from Russia; the
riots are escalating into civil war. Before she heads off to deal with the problem, she recounts a
memory of The Lightkeeper(Also played by Nothingness actor), where he soothed a civilian
after said civilian shot him (the bullets did nothing), only to revive them after they killed
themselves in shame.
Now in the present, she explains that, although Alex isn't the nicest person, she won't
cause a Nuclear Winter like her previous did. Bryan talks about Heather, noting how hes too
shy to talk to her. She suggests he call her and see what happens. He leaves, while
Timekeeper orders Omar to release the autopsy of Lightkeepers death.
Act One, Scene Five
June 25th, The Journalist watches a reporter interview Martin about the Lightkeeper
autopsy report, until Bryan enters. Freaked out, he tries to kick Journalist out of his house, but
he won't budge. Journalist tells him to stop taking his pills; their hurting him and hes better off
without them. He also states he knows alot about him. After getting a splintering headache, he
leaves, much to Bryans relief.
He reveals that last night, he finally called Heather, and then stayed up all night, thinking
about her. She seemed ok with him, and in fact, might be sharing similar feelings he does-
He hears knocking. Its Norma, who wants him to help in interrogating. At the base,
Cassius informs her that since shes under investigation, Congress has moved her to a limbo
position. The Peacekeepers are in charge now. Bryan is angered by seeing Cassius (he was a
neglectful parent), but Norma tells him to leave.
In the interrogation room, him and Edgar try to get information out of Rick. It doesn't
work, Edgar reads their mind out of frustration. Norma informs Jack of the info gathered.
Afterwards, Bryan and Clara walk to his house. He gushes about his love for Heather.
She points out that he barely knows her, and warns him not to repeat what he did for
the other girls he chased after. After Clara leaves, he feels bad and self depreciates himself
over his feelings, before falling asleep.
In his dream, he sees Roger forcing himself upon Heather. He gets angry and tries in
vain to move.Thats when Emily reveals her presence, and asks if hes remembered what this
means. he wakes up. Seeing that Omar is still gone (and has been for a few days), Bryan hopes
for Heather to save him from this nightmare.
Act One Scene Six
June 28th; Alex tries to dispel Martin's claims about The Lightkeepers Death , but is fired
at by a lunatic. Meanwhile, Edgar narrates; since Project Altius was moved over to a
Peacekeepers operation, things have been going better for its members. Even Norma, who
was fired, still works in the base and spends most of her time with Cassius and Jack.
Edgar talks about Clara and Bryan; Claras changed. Shes quieter and much more
aloof. He suspects its either from being a secretary, or the Scene Three incident. As for Bryan,
Edgar notes that he obsessively thinks about and calls Heather all the time.
As for the Peacekeepers, they occupy the role Clara used to have, but all they do is
mess with drug dealers and other weirdos in the forest. Edgar bids goodbye to the audience;
hed love to join Clara, Bryan, and Jacks convo, but he knows they hate him, and he doesn't
think their wrong doing so.
We cut to Jack bitterly conversing to Bryan and Clara about why The Peacekeepers
aren't doing their job (its cause of Timekeeper doing their jobs for them). Its interrupted when
gunshots are heard. Jack takes charge and has the doors locked. The other two wait. Then the
power goes out. The doors reopen, revealing Norma and Lance holding a seriously wounded
Cassius
The backup generator kicks in. Jack searches for a missing Edgar as Lance bursts into
tears. With Bryan relieved of service, him and Clara say their strained, awkward goodbyes. Not
before Clara tricks him into knowing who caused the shooting. The ATC did it.
Act One, Scene Seven
July 4th, Heather talks to her therapist about nightmares stemming from Scene Three.
She wonders if shes a freak, before the psychologist assures her that people react to trauma
differently.
Afterwards Bryan calls her. He tells her that Claras been mistreating him, and asks
about the progression of her healing illnesses. Its going along smoothly(a lie). Then he asks
her if shed like to get breakfast with him. She lies that shes busy for the next few weeks, before
hanging up.Heather voices her discomfort over Bryans creepy behavior (now hes acquired her
address and sending her stuff), but her parents chastise her for lying to a mentally inept child
before suggesting she date him
In case he gets too rowdy with her, Heather's mother gives her zipties. Heather decides
to tell him the truth, but stops after dialing his number. She begrudgingly figures that he needs
her help, considering the alternate equals her parents disowning her, plus the situation between
him and Clara.
Act One, Scene Eight
Senator Franklin informs the American public that a vote to impeach Alex is underway,
as she lied to the Senate about Project Altius. Bryan & Omar watch this on TV before
Timekeeper pays a visit. During the talk, we learn a few new things; Bryans biological parents
are in prison, they were serial killers, and they caused his DID.
Bryan calls out the bluff and demands Timekeeper tell the truth about his parents. She
instead offers to make Heather love him. This disgusts him and he accuses her of killing his
parents so she could control him. Omar stops the argument and tricks Bryan into remembering
what his parents did to him.
After Omar and Timekeeper leave, he somberly reveals that his parents molested him
when he was younger for being a gifted individual. It was Rogers parents who saved him from
that home. To Bryan, this was the only good thing they did for him.
We transition into a flashback; he confronts Roger about treating Clara like a princess
while treating him like a child. They get into a nasty argument, Roger accusing him of being an
egotistical asshole, before Roger tells him to get lost.
Bryan angrily blames the pills for his inability to remember his parents abuse, why he
tolerated Rogers poor treatment of him, and why he became obsessed with Heather. With her
mental illness cure seemingly around the corner, he swears of taking the pills.
Act One, Scene Nine:
That same day, Norma convinces a scarred and bitter Cassius to request a transferral
outside of Project Altius, citing that the project resulted in 10 pointless casualties. Abraham
hears about this and tries to persuade Omar otherwise, but is shut down.
Afterwards, Alex rants about Project Altius getting shut down, as theyve lost all but
Clara, no other gifted individual will join because of the incidents in Scene Three and Six, and
Alexs impeachment trial poisoned its reputation. Alex argues that the recruits congress
provided weren't good enough to approach the violence problem, that the teens were better.
Said violence was a fearful reaction to programs like Project Altius, according to Abraham
Alex blames the fear on Martin. Abraham suggests they arrest him, but Alex has other
ideas. Theyre gonna use Clara to killed Martin and Rick. Appalled, Abraham criticizes the idea,
but she reminds him that theyre just figureheads to take the heat off of Timekeeper and
Congress, and theyll be doing just that. Alex calls Clara and forces her to comply.
Act One, Scene Ten:
July 8th, early in the morning, The Journalist interviews Martin, who reveals that hes
spewing conspiracies he knows are false to become famous. Now he regrets this, fearing the
fallout from his words. Thats when Clara barges in and shoots him. She runs off as The
Journalist, working for Alex, rubs Martin's hands all over the gun.
It cuts to Norma, now late at night, confronting Abraham about Martin's murder. He tells
her that this is Alexs way of putting the boot down and she should keep her head down. She
has no intention of doing this, much to his dismay.
Now July 10th, Rick calls for the people to stand with him against the government,
before hes shot by Clara. Rick makes it look like a suicide, until The Timekeeper catches him
in the act. She fails to freeze him in his place.
She calls Bryan, confessing to killing Martin, before breaking down and hanging up.
Shaken, Bryan promises himself to keep this a secret, before coughing up blood (the pill
withdrawal effects). He freezes up, and walks offstage.
Nothingness walks away from a riot accusing the prime ministers of slaying Martin. That
is, until he encounters Edgar. The latter realizes immediately its not Bryan, but still,
Nothingness senses his strong negativity and ushers him away from the riot. Edgar reluctantly
agrees to come along and the former spawns two chairs, a table, and a poker deck.
Nothingness tries to cheer up a gloomy Edgar, and we learn that he has no clue why
hes depressed. Nevertheless, he has a few theories. Nothingness convinces him to get in
contact with his PA co-workers right when Journalist appears, disguised. He takes Nothingness
with him, and afterwards Edgar calls Heather. She tells him that shes gonna help Bryan.
Act One, Scene Eleven:
July 11th, Heather wakes Bryan up in an abandoned diner. They figure out that he was
taken there by The Journalist for unknown reasons. He correctly deduces that hes been
creeping her out, and apologizes. She brushes it aside and snaps at him when he persists. She
orders him to text Clara, they all need to talk.
Bryan talks about his parents abuse, Heather unsure know how to respond. Thats when
he starts coughing up blood. As she moves towards him he freezes up. Emily enters, wearing
Bryans clothing, and replaces him. She continues the conversation, acting like nothing
happened. Then she asks Heather to kill her. She refuses, prompting Emily to grab her hand
and try to stab Emily in the heart. Heather overpowers her, subduing her with the zip ties.
Clara shows up looking very out of it. Bryan gives up the jig; her name is Emily Morgan.
He lets her come out when he cant handle the world around him, especially when his parents
violated us. All she wants to do is die, as Emily feels shes done all she could for him and
Nothingness. But shes physically unable to harm herself, so one of the girls will have to do the
job.
Heather questions if killing her would hurt all three personalities. After confirming that no
it wouldn't, she moves to slice her throat. The latter berates the former for trusting this sketchy
individual, and the two girls argue about it. Emily freezes up.
Bryan forces Emily offstage, right as Heather slashes his throat. Clara runs off while
Heather realizes that who she harmed. She manages to save him, lying that she loves him so
hed stop talking and let her concentrate. The Journalist appears, incapacitates Heather, and
kidnaps Bryan, intent on bringing Emily back out.
Act One Scene Twelve:
That night, Abraham listens to a recording from Alex; Senator Franklin is laundering
money. What theyre going to do is lure them into Alexs office, where theyll blackmail them into
ensuring hell pass unpassable reforms thatll benefit the country. This could even extend to
his time as Prime Minister. She suggests he find a fall guy if the plan goes south.
Abraham receives a call from Norma, informing him that forces are looking for Bryan all
over the Capitol. He asks her if she can do him a little favor. Telling her the plan, she is
disgusted, but surprisingly willing to go along. After hanging up, Abraham types up an email
explaining his and Alexs exploits to Franklin, but decides against sending it. He convinces
himself that Alex would retaliate against Norma or Cassius.
Act One, Scene Thirteen:
July 12th, at 8:50AM, Lance tells Cassius and Jack about the effects his mild-PTSD is
having on him. The monologue blends into Claras, who's in her house, with a package beside
her and a note that reads This knife is your ticket to freedom, -Clarence(AKA The Journalist).
Hearing someone knocking, she hides the knife and note.
Timekeeper informs Clara that the police want her to give a testimony about Bryans
disappearance. Clara instead talks about Alexs exploits. Timekeepers not surprised, but Clara
chews her out, believing she could've stopped this incident from happening. She assures Clara
that Alex will be taught a valuable lesson. Clara doesn't care what she does, pulling out the
knife. Before Timekeeper can stop her, she slits her throat. She mourns her death.
Also at 8:50AM, Abraham, Alex, Norma, and Franklin discuss the state of America;
things are bad. The death of Martin Washington has caused riots to spring up all around the
nation. Franklin wonders who ordered their hits, before Alex attacks them. Norma, in response,
stabs her with the syringe.
Two scenes overlap; Jack enters Heathers hospital room and prevents Edgar from
leaving, telling the two that Alexs dead, and Bryans kidnapper may have connections to her.
At 9:00AM, Cassius enter the office accompanied with Franklin. Cassius checks Alex, only to
find her dead; the dosage of anesthesia was too strong. He detains Franklin, Norma, and
Abraham for questioning.
Bryan, in The Forest Reserve and vomiting blood, runs from The Journalist. Omar enters
the Forest Reserve alone, searching for him. He notes how the forest reserve is a treacherous
place filled to the brim with secrets. Then he catches up to Bryan, alone. Omarr soon learns,
however, that its Emily. She begs Omar to protect her from a madman thats been chasing
them-
The Journalist drugs Omar, and corners Emily. After confirming that its her, he asks if
she recognizes who he is, but Emily doesn't. He coldly states that he was someone she hurt
long ago, back for revenge. He offers her last words, before she freezes. He contemplates
abandoning the whole plot, before he hears screaming, Journalist decides she took too much
from the world and shoots Bryan, who replaced her. Nothingness appears and subdues him
with zip ties, before reviving Emily.
Angered, she beats up The Journalist while Nothingness observes. She swears that
shell kill scum like him, before brutally choking him. Omar starts to stir, causing Emily and
Nothingness to flee in panic. He mourns his inability to protect Bryan.
Act Two Prologue
August 4th, a funeral is held for Bryan Hayes; Edgar, Heather, Cassius, Jack, Lance,
and Omar all pay their respects. Nothingness and Rick try to rile up the crowd by blaming the
government for his death. They are instead chased off and Omar reveals that Timekeeper
prevented Bryans cure.
Cassius and Jack leave to visit Claras grave. Cassius places flowers on the grave,
before breaking down. Jack leads him offstage. Edgar tells Heather about how frustrating and
meaningless interrogating The Journalist has been. Heather plans for them to go out for lunch
sometime, before leaving. Edgar wishes he were in Clara's position before Emily, watching him,
tackles him.
She threatens to hurt his father, Gordon Backman, if he doesn't figure out where
Abraham is located. Intimidated, he agrees, before Cassius sees them. He strikes a
conversation with them about Clara & Abraham, before Edgar determines that Abraham is
within The Pendleton State Center. Hes been supposedly cleared of his charges. After Cassius
leaves, Emily thanks him.
It cuts to Abraham, before Emily appears to him. He demands to know who she is. She
instead intimidates him into admitting that he shares a blame in all the bad thats going on in the
country. Afterwards, she slits his throat. Emily and Nothingness flee the scene.
Act Two, Scene One:
August 5th, A senate meeting is held, led by Franklin. They officially launch an
investigation into who killed Abraham, but with great difficulty (the senate is falling apart and
mainly bickering with each other).
Norma, overseeing The Journalists interrogation, has a convo with Gordon until Edgar
comes back. Lets try again with our friend. She exclaims, before escorting him into the
interrogation room. The Journalist finally spills the beans on who he is; hes the resurrected
Lightkeeper, and Emily was his killer. Now he wants to stop her from killing anymore people and
avenge his murder. Edgar and Norma are disturbed by this information.
Act Two, Scene Two:
August 7th, Heather watches the news outside a restaurant; The Journalist has escaped
his prison. Nothingness, under the alias Paul Keating, approaches her. He tells her about
Edgars involvement with Abraham's death. She doesn't believe him until he mentions Emily,
stating that they both came from Bryan, and his rhetoric is correct. Thats when a man shoots at
them, entering the restaurant. After Heather flees, Nothingness speaks to the audience;
During this month, hes observed the country descend into chaos. He believes a spark
needs to go off, and although he thought Emilys crusade was abhorrent, a week ago he
realized it can be used to his advantage. To set Stage 2 of his plans into motion, he revives the
now dead robber in front of a large crowd.
That night, Emily returns to Edgar. She demands he find the address of Normas house,
as she was a willing participant of Project Altius exploits. Edgar refuses, angering Emily. He
tries to restrain her, only for her to beat the hell out of him. She pulls out a knife and threatens to
kill Gordon and Heather, as theyre apart of the wicked.
Edgar conforms to her demands, and is taken outside of Cassius house. Him and Jack
are talking about Lance. Meanwhile, at Normas house, shes become an alcoholic. She reads a
journal from Abraham(?) revealing that he intended to take down the government. Her reading
is interrupted by a knock on the door.
Behind the door stands Emily with a crowbar, which she uses to bludgeoned Norma to
death. The Journalist appears and reveals his true identity, intent on making her surrender.
Emily instead angrily tells him hes better staying off dead. Thus, she fatally stabs him with a
poisoned tipped knife, before fleeing the scene.
Act Two Scene Three:
The next day, Edgar watches the announcement of Norma and The Journalists
demises. He debates ODing on pills, before deciding that he still has something to look forward
to; Gordon. Maybe Heather too. Emily and Nothingness suddenly barge in. He tells them to go
away, but they persist.
Emily acts much nicer to Edgar. She apologizes for threatening to hurt his father, and
admits that she likes him. She describes all the things theyd do together, except sex. Sex
grosses her out. Disgusted, but seeing no other choice, he lies that he too has feelings for her.
Nothingness reminds them that the wicked are everywhere. Emily, however, is morally
conflicted about continuing the crusade. Nothingness reminds her that if she stops, hell report
her to the police. That makes up her mind, and they kidnap Edgar, intent on more bloodshed.
Emily promises that shell return him to his family when the crusades over.
Meanwhile, Omar tells us that Senator Franklin is being inaugurated to become Prime
Minister and will finish out Alexs term. The identity of The Journalist has not been revealed.
Besides that, a majority of citizens are now listening to Paul Keating (AKA Nothingness) and
Rick, and are calling for revolution.
After a meeting with Franklin and The Timekeeper, her and Omar discuss the
ramifications of The Journalists identity, before the latter suggests they both watch the tape.
She reluctantly agrees. It starts with Timekeeper and Lightkeeper (who seems depressed from
his jesus like status) talking, until Omar enters with Jack (in civilian clothes), who has Bryan with
him.
This boy is dying from an incurable brain tumor. Every doctor weve been to is unable to
treat him.Jack states. He begs The Lightkeeper to cure him. Jack is escorted out of the room by
Omar as Lightkeeper tries his magic on the poor boy. It works, and Bryan feels much better.
That is, until he freezes up.
Emily replaces him. The Lightkeeper notices this sudden change, correctly deducing that
Bryan has DID. Thankfully, he can fix that, which involves killing the other personalities. Emily
doesn't want to die, and in an act of desperation, she stabs him with a knife, killing him.
Timekeeper freaks out and Omar brings Jack back in for an explanation. He explains
that the boy was rescued from a sexually abusive home. It caused him to get DID and the other
personalities are prone to violence. Timekeeper intends to keep them both at the palace until
she can figure out what to do. The tape ends.
TImekeeper believes that her and Lightkeeper are immortal, unless they let something
kill them. She figures that his misery allowed this to happen. Her and Omar decide, in an effort
to calm the public, to release everything relating to The Lightkeeper Case, past and present.
Act Two, Scene Four:
August 17th, Heather watches a rally from superstar Paul Keating. He dramatically urges
a crowd to stand up against the government; it's been taken over from the inside by scum like
Alex. They both let criminals like Clara and Bryan run around, compromised The Timekeeper,
and orchestrated The Lightkeeper, Abraham Zefania, Aaron Nielsen disappearances, killing
them when they became problematic. In the case of the second, they killed his daughter and
several senators to silence them.
The people must take the government back and avenge those they slew, causing the
crowd to cheer. Thats when a few people (one of them Rick) barge into Heathers house. She
reluctantly joins them, unsure what to believe anymore.
Act Two, Scene Five:
August 23rd, Nothingness tells us that the citizens all over America have risen up
against the government. Now the country is engulfed in a violent civil war, and although The
Timekeeper is trying her hardest to put it down, the fires of revolution will consume her
anyway. He walks off, smiling, as the group from the last scene enter.
They start to set up a base of operations, some heading offstage. They talk excitedly
about how The Peacekeepers are already supporting their cause, because of who the
whistleblowers were. Very soon, Paul Keating will dismantle congress and fix all of their
problems.
Suddenly, gunshots come from both stage wings. The revolutionists, armed to the teeth,
fight back. Yelps of pain are heard from both wings. After the dust settles, they split up into
groups and head to both wings; Stage Right group comes back with a wounded, scared Lance
and Gordon.
The revolutionist leader steals Lances radio and get in contact with Cassius. He
demands the coordinates of congresses hideout, or else the traitor (Cassius doesn't know its
Lance, but Jack does) dies. Cassius refuses these demands, they are not worth the life of
some soldiers. He bluntly states. Jack is too shocked to speak.
Rick tells Lance that, for betraying the cause, he must be executed. They tie a bag over
his head, Lance trying to struggle, but Heather, having come to her senses, refuses to shoot
him. The others (but Rick) gun both down. The Timekeeper appears and freezes the
revolutionists, berating them. Heather fails to save Lance, yet he dies happy, seeing someone
but his parents giving him affection. She somberly joins Gordon in his weeks-long search for
Edgar.
Cassius enters Center Stage, and tries to speak, but Jack grabs his collar. He angrily
informs Cassius that he had Lance killed. Chillingly calm, Cassius justifies his actions, and
watches as Jack storms off, their relationship over. Afterwards, he aimlessly wanders the streets
and lamenting what his lifes become.
Thats when he encounters a gang of looters. He purposely escalates the situation
wherein they try to kill him, but is saved by Heather and Gordon. They take him with them.
Edgar, suffering from Stockholm Syndrome, and Emily watch this.
Nothingness reappears, happier then ever. She demands to know what hes done. Im
Creating a new world, sweetie. Nothingness smugly replies, before demanding she kill Omar,
Franklin and their family, as they are all truly wicked. Emily refuses, and threatens to kill him.
This causes an argument, wherein he convinces her that shes the one using him, hes
the victim, and calls her a useless bitch wholl be turned over to the law if she keeps up the
attitude. She apologizes, and he cheerfully assures her that he still cares about her wellbeing.
The two watch as he joins a group of revolutionists drag Jack offstage. Edgar voices his
disgust of Nothingness, but Emily snaps at him. She tells him that Omar will be punished for his
crimes. And theyll need Cassius for help. Edgar plans to lure Nothingness back to them and
murder him.
Act Two, Scene Six:
That night, Edgar enters his house. He dissects Cassius thoughts and almosts leaves,
until he sees his father on the couch. He reasons with himself that Gordon hates him. Then he
starts to dissect Gordons thoughts, and finds out that hes been searching for Edgar for weeks.
His pacing eventually wakes Gordon up, who embraces his son.
Emily enters and Gordon tells her to stay away, wielding a baseball bat. Edgar, realizing
whats happened to him, cowers behind his father. Emily becomes heartbroken, before Gordon
attempts disarming her. She panics and stabs him. She apologizes profusely as Cassius and
Heather enter. The former tackles her up for killing most of his family, while the latter breaks up
the fight.
The Timekeeper appears. She arrests Emily and calms Cassius down. She offers to take
the five to the retreat Omars hiding at. They accept the offer, and she teleports them to said
retreat, before teleporting her and Emily to Pendleton...
Act Two, Scene Seven:
There, Timekeeper informs Emily that you did not kill The Lightkeeper, before leaving.
This confuses Emily, before she discusses the implications. This monologue becomes more and
more unhinged as she stops denying the true nature of Nothingness actions...
He enters as Emily is suffering a crisis in her cell. He assures her that shes become a
worse monster then Journalist or Alex. Speaking of which, you have visitors Nothingness tells
her. The spirit of Journalist (wearing The Lightkeepers clothes) and the ghosts(?) of Abraham
and Norma enter. All but Journalist not only berate her, but reveal the audiences presence. This
drives her insane.
She begs the audience to stop watching the play so she can cease to exist. Nothingness
disagrees, and hands her the knife. You know what to do. He says, before leaving with the
ghosts(?) of Abraham and Norma. She stabs herself in the same spot she stabbed The
Lightkeeper 3 years ago.
The Journalist stares at Emilys body, disturbed by what just happened. Right then
Timekeeper and an officer enter and see the mess. He hides. Timekeeper orders him to write a
report before telling him to switch on the TV that night. When the officer leaves, Timekeeper
briefly mourns Emily.
She monologues briefly. Having blamed herself for all the madness thats occured, shes
decided to resign her title of Empress. But first, she must inform the public. Maybe that will quell
them. Then, she has some apologies to make to Omar-
The Journalist makes his presence known to her. Timekeeper coldly asks why he faked
his death. He defends himself, stating that he really did die, but came back unrecognizable,
and started hearing the screams of the millions who perished in The Great War everywhere he
went.
He believed he was avenging not only himself, but them. Still, he regrets killing Bryan,
before stating that hell have to return to the others soon. He wants her to join him. She
refuses, stating that she must live on to prevent another war from happening.
A melancholy Journalist promises her that someday, she will be reunited with them,
before leaving. Timekeeper exits, intent on writing the speech...
Act Two, Scene Eight:
Cassius, Edgar, and Omar are all in the hideout watching said speech. Its still night.
Thats when Heather frantically tells Edgar to come with her; Gordons dying from the poisoned
tipped knife and she can't do much about it. They both leave as Cassius and Omar decide that
one of them will adopt the two if their parents turn up dead. In the other room, Gordon
apologizes that hell be leaving Edgar, but promises that hell always be with him. He loses
consciousness, and Edgar rushes out of the room. Heather hesitates, unsure if she wants to
help him (remembering Lance). Looking at Gordons lifeless(?) body, she runs after him.
Edgar enters the basement and finds the same knife and note from Clara's package,
except Clarence is replaced with Paul. Heather, in the same room but offstage (its symbolic
of Edgars loneliness), calls out to him. He tells her to stay there; Gordon is all he has left and
without him theres no point to continue living. She assures him that he has more people in his
life then he realizes. This includes her.
He angrily tells her that he was never her friend. He only hung around her because he
was bored and pitied her. He always thought she was a horrible person, bringing up all the
things shes done. Keeping her nerve, Heather points out that he has a problem and is now
horribly in shock; suicide will only be a temporary solution to his suffering. She and many others
can help him. She gets closer to him.
Edgar tells her to back off. He notes how his father tried to help him, but nothing worked.
Now its only a pipedream. Emily & Nothingness turned him into a monster that doesn't deserve
help. Heather uses the time to slowly move towards him and disarm him.
Holding him, she assures him that he can get better, and although it will be a long and
hard journey, one she can't supernaturally help him with, itll be one he won't have to do alone.
He reads her thoughts for any signs of malice. With none, he starts tearing up as Cassius and
Omar enter the basement. They too comfort him.
Timekeeper appears, requesting to speak with Omar. Back upstairs, she apologizes for
causing his wife's death, before the two bid their goodbyes. Moved profoundly by this, Omar
delivers a mini speech to the other three coming back up from the basement, assuring them that
things really will be ok.
Epilogue:
The date is June 11th, and Omar tells us that The Timekeeper let them (except Cassius,
who fought against the revolutionaries) wait out the rest of the revolution in her palace. The
revolution was crushed by the Peacekeepers, and with the exception of Paul Keating (whos
now the target of an international manhunt), all of its leaders are contained. Omar believes The
Timekeepers resignation speech was the pivotal factor in the revolutions downfall.
Speaking of her, she is missed all around America, especially by members of Congress
as theyre no longer able to get their pet projects secretly past. Franklin is now Prime Minister
of America and is doing an ok job at running it, managing to get several reforms passed.
However, several more are still pending, perhaps indefinitely, due to protest from Congress.
Most of these congressmen were from before the revolution, as Omar tells us, and will likely be
re-elected.
Cassius, now a colonel, has re-engaged contact with Jack, who lives in Canada. Theyre
on the road to fixing their relationship. Meanwhile, Heather and Edgar, whos in brighter spirits,
have become close friends. All four will never forget the pain and suffering it took to reach this
point.
That day, Edgar and Heather visit Bryan and Clara's grave. Nothingness and the
ghosts(?) of Bryan and Emily appear on the edge of the right wing. Nothingness beckons
towards Edgar. He notices, and Heather asks whats the matter, unaware(?) of the apparitions.
Edgar stands there, hesitant.
