Rizals Letter: To The Young Women of Malolos

In February 2, 1889, Rizal wrote this letter in response to the request of his friend Marcelo H. Del Pilar
while residing in London. And it was originally written in tagalog. The letter did not contain any love
confessions but instead its a way of how rizal acknowledge the bravery of 20 young women from
Malolos who stood up and pursue the establisment of a night school where they can learn Spanish. He
commend them for their desire to educate themselves.

Rizal finds in these women a beam of trust in restoring the Filipino woman's dignity and worth, which are
being belittle at that time that ladies are not just an assistant to a family taking after her mom's
decisionsand impulses, that ladies are not recently negligible devotees and are just competent to befragile
and quiet not in any case attempting to voice out their thoughts, and that ladies now havefinally stirred
that they also can respond and battle for opportunity and what is correct.

Rizal sees in these women a ray of hope in restoring the Filipino woman's dignity and worth, which are
being belittle at that time that women are not only an accessory to a family following her mothers
decisionsand whims, that women are not just mere followers and are only capable to befragile and silent
not even trying to voice out their ideas, and that women now havefinally awakened that they too can react
and struggle for freedom and what is right.

This letter contains praises for the young women for their determintion to purse the establisment of a
night school where they can learn spanish.
