Hatchet A Cry in the Wild alike in many ways, but at the same time very
different. Complete the Venn Diagram that you will find on the back of this page.
Compare and contrast the two as you watch the movie.

Once you have completed the Venn Diagram, use it to help you write a
review comparing the two. Your review should include specific information about
how the book and the movie are similar and how they differ. As you write you
should make decisions as to whether you feel that changes that were made for
the movie were effective or whether you felt that they were unnecessary.
Finally, you must explain which of the two, Hatchet or A Cry in the Wild, does a
better job of telling the story. Some ideas to consider when making your
evaluation are writing techniques that were used such as flashback, repetition,
foreshadowing, and vivid imagery. Which do you feel displays these components
most effectively? Also, think about the theme of the story. Which of the two
gets this idea across better to a reader. Make sure to justify your answers.
