topic or issue. In this manner of writing, you are required to organize
your arguments and provide explanation which may be accompanied by
evidence so that the readers will be persuaded in believing that your
opinion is acceptable.

Persuasive essays

● Mandatory minimum sentencing is harmful to the human race. It is a form

of discrimination; many people receive long sentences for minor crimes.
We should overturn mandatory minimum sentencing rules and give judges
more leeway in their decision-making.
● The death penalty is a good deterrent for criminals. Beyond that, it is fair
because the Bible supports "an eye for an eye." We need to keep the death
penalty on the books.
The paragraph "The Stairway" uses spatial organization. In describing the
stairway, the author shows that as a young boy, his first view was from below
looking up at the mannequin. Then he climbs up the stairway. The spatial
organization is from bottom to top. When he describes the mannequin, he first
gives an impression (the way she was leaning against the wall and the
appearance of the dress). Then he focuses on her face and finally on her
unblinking eyes. The spatial organization is from far to near.
