WHAT IS
IT?
Parsing is the analysis of the syntactic functions or
relationships of concordance and hierarchy of words when
they are grouped together in the form of syntagms, to form
simple sentences and sentences composed of propositions.
WHAT
IS IT
FOR?
Parsing is essential for interpreting texts and
documents. To proceed with the syntactic analysis of a
sentence, we must first distinguish whether it is a simple
or compound sentence.
TYPES OF SENTENCES
COMPOUND
SIMPLE SENTENCES SENTENCES
Simple sentences are those that have only Formed by two or more propositions that
one subject, only one conjugated verb, and express a complete thought (subject and
only one predicate. predicate).

MAJOR AND MINOR
SENTENCES
MAJOR SENTENCES The mother bought milk
These are sentences that consist of two at the supermarket
parts: Subject and predicate.
MINOR SENTENCES
It's raining, how nice! They have only one member, they cannot be
divided into subject and predicate.

The two main components found in a sentence are the
subject and the predicate.
SUBJECT NUCLEUS
It can be formed by a noun, by a
pronoun in first, second or third
person and without article by a noun
word.

ELEMENTS OF THE
PREDICATE The nucleus of the predicate is a verb
VERBAL PREDICATE
It has as its nucleus a verb other than ser, estar or parecer (in Spanish). For example: The
child slept all day. Verbal predicate nuclei express actions or processes. Verbal
predicate sentences are predicative sentences.
NOMINAL PREDICATE
They contain a copulative verb. The verbs ser, estar and parecer are copulative. This type
of predicate usually expresses what the subject is or how it is.
