LO2
Plans will show a full consideration of movement and continuity, perspective, point of view,
transitions and special effects.
Learners will follow industry conventions and terminology used in storyboard production
correctly.
Plans for the construction of models, sets and props will be realistic and clear.
Drawings, script and storyboard will all show a creative interpretation of the idea.
LO3:
The documentation linked to the production will be full and detailed and there will be
evidence that the production management and scheduling of the project has been effective
and carried out in a professional manner. The techniques used in the production of the work
are likely to be related to an understanding of current trends in the industry.
In all practical activity learners will be capable of working autonomously and effectively. They
will work on their own initiative, will not need constant support or supervision, will give the
work their full commitment, work positively and cooperatively with others, and meet
deadlines. In other words, they will have the kind of self-management skills that would be
expected of them in a professional context. Note also that this criterion should not be taken
to mean that learners do not seek advice or that they work without discussing things with
their tutor, but rather that they are not dependent upon the support of others and that when
they take advice they weigh it carefully for themselves.

Planning
Brainstorm / mind map (add extra pages if necessary
The name of the show is Lets go, and is a childrens paper cut out show. This is a pilot episode which
is going to be a minimum of 1 minute long, is aimed at children 7-12 years old, in the socioeconomic
group D and above.
It follows a young man Esco, who gets up to mischief when he speaks with his ego Cavi. Esco is a
young man who enjoys creating things and adventure, but his world becomes even bigger when he
meets his ego named Cavi.
The main character is named Esco, and is a 13 year old boy, he is of African origin, and is home
schooled. Never got along with the other kids, so spends a lot of time by himself.
The ego is called Cavi, his age has not been disclosed, his ethnic origin has not been disclosed, Cavi
is a figment of es imagination. But he has a mind of its own.
The first scene, will start with Esco waking up as the camera is directly over him, and there is a first
person shoot of Esco seeing a figure at the end of his bed, as he wakes up more and more he goes to
rub his eyes and realises that they are gone, when he is facing himself in front of a mirror.
The second scene will be of, Esco searching all over his room for his eyes, behind the mirror under
his books, he stands in front of his bed and there is a close up then a shot of him searching
underneath it to no prevail.
The third scene will be of Esco sitting cross legged in front of his bed, and suddenly there will be a
close up of Cavis face and he will scream, it will quickly transition to a close up of Escos face as he
screams this will go back and forth twice and Esco will break the cycle by saying Hey softly. Then
there will be a mid-shot of Cavi, hovering in the air as he explains to Escco what he is and displays to
Esco two gifts he has to choose between, then Esco makes his decision and there is a shoot of Esco
with the chosen gift.
Stop Motion Animation Pre-production Booklet
The episode will have a sound track of its own, crafted for the show. There will be some
form of narration in the episode. The episode will be a minimum of 1 minute long. The
episode will be targeted at people aged 7-12 years old.
Risk assessment: Are there any health and safety issues you may encounter?
A paper cut might occur when moving the models, so care must be taken when moving
models. A wound might occur when making the models with sharp scissors, so use less
sharp scissors or take care when cutting out models. Glue may be ingested when making
models, so remember to wash hands after handling models.
Discuss any legal issues you may face. Eg; sound, plagiarism, age restrictions
Permission must be granted in order to use one of the instrumentals used in the shows
soundtracks. So in order to bypass this an email will be sent to the owner of said
instrument, asking for permission to use the material.
Some may see the show and think it pushes the line for the target audience it is aimed, so
the show could be aired later in the day.

combined formats
This form has been chosen, because it is a cost effective form, and is a form which is best
suited to effectively execute the episode planned. Though it is acknowledge, to be very time
consuming.
What are the different possibilities you could explore using this format?
The models can be drawn in every position and only animated in a straight line, with now
need for excess moving parts.
Not every feature has to be displayed of the models and world as it can be set in a 2D
format.
Any kind of creature can be created and made to stand up as it doesnt have to physically
hold its own weight.
What are the limitations of using this format? (i.e what problems/ obstacles might you
have?)
One major limitation is that each model will have to be cut out or drawn in every position,
which will be used in the episode. This will make the process of creating the production very
time consuming.
Though this can be combated by cutting out individual pieces for each limb of a model,
which could improve the scale of movement between each stop frame. Though a major
limitation to this will be that the pieces will become even easier to lose.
Another limitation will be that creating 3D models will consume too much time, and will be
very difficult to animate.
What imaginative or inventive animations have you seen which use this format?
Add in links and screen shots of three examples of animations using this format.
South Parks Pilot was very creative and simple, because it full communicates the narrative,
motion and builds characters in a world. All using few pieces, as the scene is always simple
not littered with props, and this doesnt take away from the scene because it uses what is
only absolutely essential to driving the narrative forward in each scene. Its techniques can
be incorporated, whether you use a birds-eye view or front facing view for taking pictures.
Because the motion used is simple.

Stop Motion Animation Pre-production Booklet
Lotte Reinigers Cinderella was very innovative because it created the allusion that you
were watching the animation through shadow puppets. Because the black paper was light
under a screen, trying to disguise that paper was being used, and this immerses the viewer
and intrigues, because you are wondering, how it was created.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DM1YJDe4R4U
Frankie was innovative in the way it used the pieces of the model separately in order to
create fluid movement, because the change between each position of movement will be very
minuet the loose paper allowed them to animate tears fluidly.

position in the process of movement I between each stop frame.
In a model an armature is a framework around which the model is built, the armature
provides structure and stability, when plasticine or clay is being used as a medium. The
armature is usually made out of a light aluminum that can be bent and twisted with ease.

Dope sheets
Stop Motion Animation Pre-production Booklet
A dope sheet is an animation tool which helps a animator organise the animation shot-by-
shot.
This gives the camera operator instructions on each shot type and how many frames this will
be used for.
For example;
Because you will be working with video, you will be using 30fps. You will need to complete a
dope sheet for EVERY SECOND of your animation.
i.e, if you make a 30 second animation, you will need to complete 30 dope sheets.
This will be a time-consuming task, but it will help you understand what will need to
happen in each of the shots you take. The higher marks will come from a detailed and
careful collection of dope sheets. For example, if your characters speaks, you will need to
show the mouth forming every shape in order to look effective.
