Joint Notices
Churchwardens
Both our churches need to elect new churchwardens at the Annual
meetings; one to replace Barry Kinder and one to replace Mick Cheshire
plus a deputy at St Leonards. Churchwardens are the lay leaders in the
parish and relate pastorally to the clergy and congregations. They also
have responsibilities with regard to the building and for church services but
they do not have to do everything themselves.
The size of our congregations mean that most adult communicants should
expect to serve as churchwarden at some time; please pray about when
you will offer to take your turn and to whom you should suggest standing
this year. The term is only one year although to serve for two or three
years will allow you to maximise your potential.
We also elect Deanery Synod reps this year for a term of three years.
Would you be able to represent your congregation and enjoy getting to
know the wider church in the area? Is it time for some new blood?
Diocesan Lent Challenge - Fasting / Feasting for People and Planet
The Global Justice Group and the Diocesan Environment Group invite you
to take a step away from meat and towards Fairtrade. Moving to a more
plant-based diet is the single most effective action that we can take to
reduce climate change; it helps reduce our carbon emissions and helps
people living in the worlds poorest countries (and is cheaper and healthier
for us!).

The Things he Carried

The ecumenical discussion group meeting continue to study Stephen
Cottrells book on Wednesday 15 March at 10.00am at St Leonards and
7.30pm at St Josephs Catholic Church.

Olivet to Calvary by Maunder Sunday 2 April (Passion Sunday) 6pm at

St Leonards. This sacred cantata recalls the last few days of Christ's life
on earth. A very popular piece which the choir enjoyed singing with St
Mary's Tickhill last year. Please come and hear the combined choirs and
support your local choir at the same time. There will be no Evening Prayer
at Laughton.
A pastoral letter to Rt Revd Philip North (Bishop of Burnley and the
nominee for the See of Sheffield, due for election on 25th April 2017) has
been prepared for people from the Diocese of Sheffield to sign. It has been
written for those who wish to express their pastoral concern, directly, about
the reaction that has resulted from the nomination announcement. It also
asks for further conversation with the Bishop of Burnley to further mutual
understanding. The letter asks that Bishop Philip takes note of the number
of people signing the letter (names are not being published, but simply
shared with Bishop Philip). The shareable link for signing is this:
https://goo.gl/forms/TsHZGWErBNlhdOZ43 (to sign, fill in the details and
click 'submit' and you will receive a confirmation - thank you).
