ISP TRAFFIC CRASH ALERT

The Following Preliminary Information is Being Released by Illinois State
Police

Who: Unit 1 Driver-Michael Cathorall, 42 Years Old, Bunker Hill

Unit 2 Driver-Macoupin County Sheriffs Deputy Tim Burnet, 37 Years

Old, Carlinville, IL

WHAT: Two Unit Crash with Fatality

WHERE: IL-159 Just South of IL-138, Macoupin County

WHEN: Tuesday, February 28, 2017, 9:05 P.M.

Vehicles: Unit 1-2006 Green Kawasaki ATV

Unit 2-2011 Ford Police Vehicle

PRELIMINARY: Illinois State Police District 18 is investigating a two unit crash

which occurred on IL-159 just south of IL-138. Unit One was
traveling northbound on the roadway. Unit Two was also
northbound at the same location responding to a call for service
for a domestic disturbance with emergency lights and siren
activated. Unit One was traveling without its lights on. Unit Two,
traveling the same direction, struck the rear of Unit One and the
driver of Unit One was ejected from the ATV. The driver of Unit
One was pronounced deceased on scene by the Macoupin
County Coroner. Other agencies who assisted on scene were
Bunker Hill Fire Department, Bunker Hill Police Department, and
Macoupin County Sheriffs Office. The roadway was shut down
for approximately five hours. The crash is under investigation by
the Illinois State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit.

All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
