A superhero is one who possesses superhuman ability, lives by a strong moral
code, often has a secret identity and fights for those in need. Depictions of superheroes often spawned from a need for a strong hero. The original prototype superhero Superman came from 2 Jewish writers during the Great Depression. He was created as a hero to fight against tyranny and social injustices. Marvel's Captain A was created in response to the atrocities of the Nazi reign in Europe. He was a hero personifying American justice. We can see him bashing Adolf Hitler right in the face. His archenemy is Red Skull. He is a Nazi villain personifying Nazi terror. Superheroes are gifted with incredible abilities but we can relate to them, feel for them and learn from them as they deal with common struggles. For example the X men are mutants, different from the rest of society. They were created to represent minority groups such as African Americans, Jews, gay people who are unjustly persecuted for being different.
