District Leadership Declares Impasse!
Dear PEA Members,

Your bargaining team met again with the district in an attempt to settle our contract. While
the PEA team was willing to continue bargaining the district decided they were done and
gave us a last take it or leave it offer. It is unfortunate that the district is taking us back down
a road they have taken us so many times before. Below are the issues and where both sides
stand!

Article PEA Proposal District Proposal

prep period

12 - Health Fully paid Kaiser No Response

Benefits

13 - Salary 5% 3%

Article 6 Hours: The district is willing to give teachers no control over any of the adjusted
collaboration days unless it is a day where the principal forgot to put out an agenda. Other
than that we get nothing. PEA is asking for just 1 of the 4 adjusted days a month for the
teachers to be able to meet about things that matter to them. The district also refuses to pay
high school teachers who miss their prep because of activities at the high school.

Article 8 Class Size: The district still refuses to put any class size caps on secondary classes.
They have also refused to have any language about class sizes at all for special education.
Your PEA bargaining team thinks that there should be some sort of limits on all class sizes.

For the 2016-17 school year PUSD received over 9 million dollars in new ongoing funds
under LCFF. Our current request for a raise is a cost of $1,750,000 ongoing and our benefit
request is about $600,000 the total is 2.35 million dollars which is 25% of the new ongoing
money. The district is offering 1.05 million dollars which is 11% of the new money. You have
to wonder why we are only worth a little over a dime on every new dollar.

Article 12 Health Benefits: With the extreme amount of money the district has received the
district still refuses to add any money on health benefits. Your PEA bargaining team
advocates the district pay fully paid benefits which would cost very little for the district.

Article 13 Salary: The district is stuck on 3.0% raise while your bargaining team has
reduced our request to 5% the difference is about 700,000 thousand dollars.
