3 IMPORTANT POINTS ON ECOLOGICAL SOLID WASTES

MANAGEMENT

I. ROLE OF LGUs IN SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT

- With the provisions of the Ecological Waste Management Act or Republic Act
(RA) 9003, the LGUs are mandated to create an MRF and prepare a 10-year
Solid Waste Management Plan consistent with the National Solid Waste
Management Framework.
- Provided with the national framework, the waste management plan of each LGU
must ensure the efficient management of the solid waste generated within its
jurisdiction with an implementation of a feasible reuse, recycling and composting
programs.

II. SEGREGATION O) WASTES

- The people are mandated in segregation of solid waste. Failure to comply on the
said order leads to some fines and disciplinary action.
- The houses are also mandated and should have a segregation storages of solid
waste, for biodegradable, non-biodegradable and for recyclable materials.

III. RECLCLING PROGRAM

- There are inventory of existing markets for recyclable materials for the
consumers and also the producers can re-use the products and also make some
products out of the used products in those market.
- There are also reclamation programs and buy-back centers for recyclable and
toxics.
