The story is told through Nicks eyes. We also get
read what he thinks, feels, and sees. The setting is
takes place at New York where Nick just recently
moved to. There he rents a house in the West Egg
district of Long Island. The area is populated with
rich people who have made their fortunes too
recently have established social connections with
other people. However Nick different from the rest
as he attended Yale University and he has social
connections in East Egg. East egg is another area
near West Egg, that is populated with the
established upper class. One evening Nick drives
out for dinner at the East Egg to meet up with his
cousin Daisy Buchanan and her husband, Tom.
There he gets introduced to Jordan Baker whom
he begins a romantic relationship with. Nick learns
from Jordan that Tom is being unfaithful towards
Daisy. He is cheating on her with Myrtle Wilson a
woman who lives in the valley of ashes. An area
between West Egg and New York. A bit after he
travels with Tom and Myrtle to New York to a party
in the apartment where Tom keeps the affair. Myrtle
starts taunting Tom about Daisy and Tom breaks
her nose. After a while Nick receives an invitation
from Gatsby. Gatsby is known for throwing
legendary parties. Nick meets Jordan there and
both of them get to meet Gatsby. Gatsby speaks to
Jordan in private. Nick later finds out that Gatsby is
in love with Daisy, Toms wife since 1917. Gatsby
lives a lavish life and throws all these parties in an
attempt to impress her. Gatsby now wants for Nick
to make a reunion between him and Daisy but is
afraid that Daisy will refuse to meet him if she finds
out that he still loves her. The beginning of the
reunion was awkward but after a while they start to
happily have a conversation. When the reunion
ends they began their affair. After a while Tom
becomes suspicious of Daisy. One day Tom and

The Great Gatsby was just a reflection of F. Scott
Fitzgeralds life. The Great Gatsby was written in
1925 by F. Scott Fitzgerald which can explain the
reason for the retro time period. He also takes
inspiration from war as he says that Gatsby was in
the war. Scott was actually based at Camp Taylor
when he was in the Army during World War I, and Author
he makes various references to Louisville in the
novel. This explains the war references in the story.

shoots him and ends his life. Afterwards George

funeral and ends any relationships with Jordan and
then moves back to the Midwest to escape the
disgust he feels towards the people that
surrounded Gatsby.

she chose to marry the man she did.
