 Alarm Browsing
The U2000 provides current alarm browsing and history alarm browsing.
 Alarm Statistics
The U2000 collects alarm statistics on a user-defined basis. The user-defined conditions
include the alarm name, alarm severity, alarm function type, alarm generation time, alarm
status, or a combination of any preceding items.
 Alarm Notification
The U2000 provides various alarm notifications, such as alarm board notification, alarm box
notification, and remote alarm notification.
 Automatic Alarms Processing
The U2000 automatically processes the required alarms based on a preset automatic alarm
processing policy, promoting the working efficiency.
 Alarm Maintenance Experience Management
The U2000 records alarm maintenance experience of users during the maintenance process.
When same alarms are generated next time, users can process the alarms by referring to the
maintenance experience. For information about how to record the experience to the U2000,
see content of recording troubleshooting and maintenance experience.
 Alarm Data dumping
The U2000 supports the function of automatically and manually dumping history alarm data
and event alarm data to a file or tape drive. The dumped alarm data is deleted from the
database, saving the disk space and ensuring the efficiency and stability of the U2000. Based
on preset parameters, automatic dumping is implemented in timing and overflow modes.

Alarm severity identifies the severity and importance of an alarm. The U2000
classifies alarms into the following four severities in descending order:
 Critical,
 Major,
 Minor, and
 Warning.

Based on whether an alarm is acknowledged or cleared, the U2000 classifies the

alarm status into the following types:
 Unacknowledged and uncleared status,
 Acknowledged and uncleared status,
 Unacknowledged and cleared status, and
 Acknowledged and cleared status.
 Conditions of Alarm Status switching
An alarm status switching is triggered by certain conditions; therefore, these
conditions are described at first.
 Acknowledging Alarms
Specifies whether an alarm is being handled. By using this method, you can
distinguish the alarms that are not handled from the handled alarms.
 Clearing Alarms
When the generation condition of an alarm is eliminated, the NE returned to the
normal status. In this case, the NE reports a clear alarm to the U2000 and the U2000
clears the alarm. You can also manually clear an alarm.
 Alarm Status
Based on whether an alarm is acknowledged or cleared, the U2000 classifies the
alarm status into the following types: unacknowledged and uncleared status,

Navigation path: Fault > Configure Construction Task

Background
NEs always generate a large number of alarms and report them to the U2000 and
customers' OSS during project installation, commissioning, and NE maintenance.
These alarms, however, can be ignored in practice. Customers require that the
U2000 be able to manage object status and support project alarming function to
avoid impact on network operation by alarm generating and reporting.

 Procedure
1. Choose Fault > Configure Construction Task from the main menu.
2. In the Configure Construction Task window, you can perform the operations that are
listed in the following table.

Masking alarms refers to that the U2000 does not receive alarms from a specified
object. When the device is maintained, tested, or deployed, many alarms may be
reported. You can set the alarm or event masking conditions to mask the required
alarms or events, so that these alarms or events are neither displayed nor saved. You
can select an alarm or event masking mode to fast mask the same alarms that are
reported subsequently.
 Prerequisite
You must be a U2000 user with public fault operator rights or higher.
 Background Information
An alarm is masked based on its original attribute before redefinition. Therefore, if
both the alarm redefinition and alarm masking are set for an alarm, the alarm is first
masked and then redefined.
 Procedure
Choose Fault > Setting > Mask Rule from the main menu.
In the Mask Rule window, click Add. A new alarm or event masking record is

 Correlative Alarms or Events

Correlative alarms or events are alarms or events that are generated due to
correlative factors, where an alarm or event is the root cause alarm of other
alarms or events.
Certain faults or conditions always cause the generation of many alarms or
events. Certain correlative alarms or events affect fault locating and analysis
of maintenance engineers. You can set certain conditions based on features of
correlative alarms or events, such as generation time and physical location.
The purpose is to lower the severity of required alarms or events or directly
mask them.
The correlative alarm analysis enables the U2000 to analyze alarms reported
by devices based on certain rules and modify alarm severities or mask alarms
based on the settings.

If the bell icon is one-bell, this indicates it is a root alarm. There is some correlative
alarm caused by this one.
If the bell icon is two-bell, this indicates it is a correlative alarm.
