Chapter 1: Its just a Fantasy

Audreys POV

To me, Gavaldon isnt really much. In a nutshell, its just a village surrounded by the
Endless Woods, separating it from the rest of the fairytale world. Everyone here is
ordinary. The bakers ordinary, the butcher is ordinary, you name it and their
ordinary. Even me.
I always dreamt of going to the School for Good and Evil. To escape this ordinary
place and leave to live a bigger life. Though, Id terribly miss my friend. Every 4
years Ive waited to be kidnapped, but every time i was too young. Now im old
enough. I finally will have my chance.
*****************************************************
I hope its me this year. I told my friend Ave as we walked towards my house.
Ave rolled her eyes, Youve always said that, but so far you're still here. Nothing
happened to you, or ever will.
I stopped outside my house and turned to face her.
You know I want a life bigger than this! I half yelled, Ive never wanted to grow
up to be ordinary and boring and marry some random boy!
Ave snorted. You sound like Sophie.
Sophie?....
Don't tell me you've never heard of her.
There was a pause during which I racked my brain.
The Dean for the School of Evil. Ave continued when I didn't respond.
Right. I murmured and stomped into my house.
You can't leave. Came Aves voice behind me.
I turned, halfway down the hall and peered at her, standing by the door. I noticed
her face was stony and her tone dead serious.
I don't want to be all alone here. She said, face softening slightly.
Ave I began. I'm sorry. I shouldn't of gotten mad like that. I'm just determined
to do something else with my life.
It's fine I understand. Everyone has fantasies. Dreams that they hope come true.
She said as she walked ahead down the hall.
I stared after her. Her lasts words stinging and laced with venom. She didn't
understand. She wasn't okay. She didn't care.
*************************************************************
Who would be the second child? I wondered as I lay in bed, staring at the ceiling.
It cant be Ave. Earlier she was just mad at me. That happens to everyone, even me.
Yet, her words still stung hours later. I sighed, rolled over, and fell asleep.
*************************************************************
Tap-Tap-Tap, Tap-tap.
Tap-
I sat up in my bed, and looked around in the semi darkness for the source of the
sound. My eyes grew wide as I spotted Ave outside my window.
I got up and opened the window.
What are you doing here? I hissed.
Her face was pale and her eyes fearful.
Its tonight. she rasped.
And?! I thought you didn't care about all of this! I whispered.
She shook her head.
I dont want to go she said, voice trailing off.
Go where?
The school for Evil.
I paled with understanding. She was angry with me earlier today because she was
scared. She was that she would be taken with or without me and left to fend for
herself in Evil.
I wont let you be taken alone. I told her, If they take you, they take me. We'll
find a way to make you happy again.
Even through separate schools? Even if i end up Evil? She looked at me, tears in
her eyes.
Yes. I promised.
Straightening up, Ave walked around my room.
Ill need a bag or two at least. You know...if they take me.
I watched as she found a large bag, walked out of my room, to her house, and back,
fully packed.
Together, we sat on my bed and waited.
The clock on my nightstand ticked closer to midnight. Midnight came and went, still
nothing.
Suddenly I heard Ave next to me, stifle a scream. Clutching my bags, I was
enveloped in a swarm of darkness.

Chapter 2:
Audreys POV

Dumbstruck with shock, I watched as a dark shadow whisked both Ave and I
towards the woods. As I felt my body leave the ground, I spun for Ave and caught
her gaze. I looked out in between the trees to see the branches getting denser and
sharper, as if it was covered in thorns.
The shadow released me and I choked on my scream as I free fell towards the
ground, waiting to feel the burning impact, but it never came.
I landed with a soft thump in the clutch of something bony. I gasped as Ave landed
besides me.
Were on a stymph! I exclaimed, catching my breathe.
The stymph took off and headed up above the trees.
I looked down at the world below me. There were sprawling cities with pristine
castles, rivers of blood, and what seemed to be some sort of giant graveyard.
Woah. came Aves voice, snapping me out of my trance.
I looked ahead.
Its beautiful. I said, tears welling.
Ahead, there were two castles. One tall and made of glass with blue and pink towers
overlooking a crystal blue lake. The other was looming with jagged spires, cutting at
the sky, surrounded by a black moat filled with sludge.
The School For Good And Evil.
The stymph flew over the Good castle, loosening me from its grip.
Ave I said.
She looked at me, face masked with fear.
Well find a way. I continued with a small smile as I gripped her wrist.
The stymph dropped me and I fell into pink mist.
*********************************************************

Aves POV:

I held back a scream as the stymph dropped me off on a dark platform.

Around me, other students were being dropped off.
A girl with sleek black hair, a pale complexion, and gangly limbs landed next to me.
Hello. I peeped.
Her face settled into a mischievous smile.
Im Coraline. she said.
Ave. I responded.
Are you a reader?
I nodded.
Her smile widened as she sneered, Well, Miss Ave. Youll find that things are quite
different here compared to where youre from.
Without another word, she turned on her heel and followed the line of students
disappearing inside.
I gaped at the line of receding students. Some were thin, others fat, one was bald,
and one girl had bulging eyes that swallowed her face. Looks can be deceiving.
Well at least thats what my mother said.
The thought of my mother and my home made me sigh. The thought that i would
surely never see them again, weighing heavily on my shoulders.
Slowly I followed the line of students and stepped into my new home.

Chapter 3:

Audrey's POV

One moment I was free falling into mist, the next I was on my feet in a small tulip
garden in front of the school. My head swam with thoughts as I shakily looked
around at my surroundings. Every few feet, beautiful girls were going daintily out of
the ground a their luggage appeared beside them. I stood away from them,
clutching my bags nervously as the girls began to chatter with each other. One girl
with shoulder length curly black hair and a dark complexion spotted me, and walked
over to me, smiling.
Hello. I'm Gabrielle. She said, hand extended.
I shook her hand.
I'm Audrey.
A felt something jab my hand and I looked down. A fairy was trying to wrestle my
bag from my grip. I let go of my bag, and the fairy stumbled backwards before flying
off with it. Seconds later, four fairies lifted Gabrielle and I from the ground.
Where are we going? I asked.
To the castle of course. You don't expect us to walk the whole way do you?
Responded Gabrielle.
I nodded with understanding.
The fairies whizzed us towards the castle and through the great glass double doors.
Once on the other side, they set us on our feet. Nymphs then gave each of us
scrolls of parchment with writing on it. I received mine from a yellow haired nymph.
Excited, I opened mine up quickly. It read:
Audrey of Woods Beyond
GOOD, 1rst year
Purity, Room# 29

Schedule:
Beautification- Prof. Emma Anemone
Princess Etiquette- Pollux
Animal Communication- Princess Uma
History of Heroism- To be announced

I exchanged my scroll with Gabrielles.

Yay! We have the same classes and we are rooming together! she exclaimed,
handing me back my scroll, But please, from now on call me Gabby. Saying
Gabrielle all the time can be a mouthful!
Agreed.
Together, Gabby and I walked up the pink glass staircase marked Purity, and walked
down the hall.
Room 12...Room 19...Room 25...Room 28
A-ha! I exclaimed, stopping abruptly in front of Room 29.
On the door was a golden plaque bearing the School Crest, Tower, and the Room
number. Below the plaque, 3 names were elegantly carved into the door.
Looks like its me, you, and Isabella. said Gabby, hand on the doorknob.
Whos Isabella? I asked.
A Good girl from Sherwood forest. Shes more of an outdoorsy type, but still a
princess. explained Gabby.
She opened the door and I stepped in besides her. The room contained three oak
wood full sized beds with light pink and ivory colored sheets, silk curtains for
privacy, three
Oak wood nightstands, one window overlooking the lake and the clearing, and three
doors leading to each girls closets. The walls were painted Magenta with different
swirl patterns sprawled across them in white. The girl named Isabella, was already
sitting cross-legged on her bed beside her uniform. I walked over to the two
remaining beds. On each, was a sturdy wooden basket. The middle bed held a
basket with my name on it. I removed the the contents from my basket onto my
bed. There were my class books, my uniform, the official handbook, and my
uniform. The uniform consisted of a sleeveless pink pinafore with a pair of skin
tones tights for colder weather, pink heels, a lacey white cover up, and a bottle of
Briar Roses Rosewater Perfume. I walked into my closet to change. I walked past
Isabella on my way to the door.
Hello Isabella. I said politely, I'm Audrey.
Hello. She responded, Nice to meet you.
Fully dressed, I left with Gabby and Isabella towards the welcoming.

Chapter 4:

Aves POV

The entire castle was dimly lit an orange-ish glow and smelled faintly of Lavender
and earth. I looked around me to find clusters of students here and there talking
amongst themselves and receiving lumpy parcels from nearby wolves. I took in the
rough grey walls and cold stone floors. It looked like a cleaner version of catacombs
that ran beneath Gavaldon.
Catacombs had been built recently under Gavaldon after the Woods had given them
a bit more land to support all the readers. The villagers had wanted a safe place to
go that was hidden and safe in which they could store food and other things away,
or in case they ever felt threatened, and need a place to go. Sure, the villagers were
more lenient on the kidnappings, now that they knew the reasons behind it all, but
they still took their precautions after living through the Tale of Sophie and Agatha.
Thinking about home, left me a little depressed, but not as much as before.
A light brown wolf tossed me a parcel and kept walking. I caught it and walked,
following the line of receding students, while trying to read my room number and
tower.
Malice, Room #56
Memorizing the information, I climbed the ebony black staircase marked Malice.
Ahead of me, I could see Coraline impatiently shoving past people. I felt a tap on my
shoulder as I turned left and began walking down the hall, searching for my room.
I turned to see a very thin boy with sharp features, grey eyes, and shocking whitish
grey hair standing behind me.
Um...this is the boys floor. He said, stumbling through his words.
I felt my face flush red as a glanced at a plaque on the wall labeled BOYS FLOOR.
S-sorry. I mumbled and started to run towards the stairs to keep going up.
I glanced back to see the boy run his hand through his hair, staring at me with
curiosity.
I finally reached the top of the staircase and looked around for my room. I decided
to go looking on the left first since, smaller numbers were usually there and got
bigger as you went down the hall. The hall was lined with black polished doors and
silver plaques.
Room 45...room 49...room 54
I stopped near the end of the hall at the door marked with a large 56. Below it, a
smaller plaque bore the my name and those of my two roommates,
