Rough guide to configuring Packet Data on windows 2000.

Start->Settings->Control Panel->Phone and Modem Options


(Enter dialing code if asked for it)

Under modems tab select Add.

Check dont detect modem -> Next

Then select standard modem types Communications between two computers


-> next
Select which Com port you wish to use -> Next.

Select Finish.

After this returns, Select the newly added Communications cable between
two computers
Select properties and change the Max port speed to 9600.
Now select ok.
Then ok.
Configuring Dial up networking.

Start->Settings->Networks + Dialup connections->Make new connection


->Next
Select Connect directly to another computer -> Next.
Select Guest ->Next
Select Communicatino cable between two computers. (COM n)->Next
Select For all users ->Next
Enter a name for this connection PD Connection -> Finish

When the above window pops up, leave the User name and password blank.
Select properties.
Select Communication cable between two computers
Select Configure
Set max speed to 9600
Check Enable hardware flow control and Show terminal window
Uncheck all the other boxes.

->Ok.
Select the options tab
Ensure this is as above then select the Security tab
Ensure it is as above then select the Networking tab.
Goto settings.
Uncheck all settings
->ok

Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)


Click on Properties
Goto Advanced.
Check Use default gateway on remote network
Uncheck Use IP header compression

Select DNS tab


Check it is as above then select the WINS tab
Check it is as above then select the options tab
Select properties
Check that it is as above
>Ok. Back to options tab
>Ok. Back to Properties
>Ok. Back to Networking the click on the Sharing tab
Check it is as above the click >OK.

Done!
Now to Packet Data register.Back to the screen below

Click Connect, things brings up the following screen.


In the Pre-Dial Terminal Screen type

OK, Data Services->PEI Parameters
Baud Rate 9600Parity Bit PARITY_NONE

continue.

The following sequence of messages should be displayed.
