Narrative Essay:

(I)The tension was high and everyone had started to gather their materials, getting ready to

march and make their opinion and voices heard. This was not the first that I had seen this, and

even though I agreed with them, I believed that their posters and banners wouldnt make a

difference in trying to change social problems that were occurring. As more and more actions

were being taken regarding Hispanics, African Americans, and Muslims, I saw that more and

more people kept joining the protests.(C) I remembered looking at the huge crowds and debating

whether I should be joining them by using some type of art form.

(I)As the protests began to gain more and more attention, people ta my school began to talk on

whether they all wanted to join the art activism that was going on. I continue to walk by and

went to my next class, which was my art class. I sat there and thought about how effective art

was and the power that it had to influence other people by sending effective messages. Next

thing I knew, I decided to talk to my teacher and her words not only surprised me. I remember

asking her how art affected our lives, and her response was that art offers a powerful and

democratic way of expressing, sharing and shaping values(values and frames.org). (C)We

continue to have a conversation about the social and political problems that were going on in the

country and how people were using art as a way to share their opinion and show how they felt.

(I)That day same say, as I was walking home from school, I realized that were many

different banners and posters posted around that had drawings depicting that Latinos, African

Americans, and Muslims were also people and they also deserved the right to be treated right.

Other posters depicted people working together to send a message of unity and the importance of

it. I eventually got home and decided to look some examples of art activism. As I looked at some

of the pictures, I was amazed to see how many people actually come together to make art that

can have a deep effect on other people. I was also surprised to see the amount of creativity that

not only recognized artists have, but also people that are not even real artists. This made me

realize that if other people were able to create art that could influence others, then I could also do

the same. That same moment I remembered the conversation that I had with my art teacher and

remembered she had said that art has the capacity to trigger reflection, generate empathy,

create dialogue and foster new ideas and relationships I see the connection between the

essay and the secondary source because the use of the source correctly backs up what the author

is writing in the essay.(values and frames. Org ). (C)That day, I started convincing myself that

maybe it would be a good idea for me to become part of art activism.

(I)As the days went by, I continued to see people who would protest during the weekend, and

also continued to see the new ways that art was being implemented into the protest. Not only

were people using posters and banners, but they were also including digital arts, performances,

and even graffiti. After a few conversations with my art teacher, I became interested in creating

paintings that would send a clear message to those who had different views or opinions. Without

really doubting about it, I decided that I would participate in the next protests that were to come

and when the time came, I was ready to make a difference with the paintings that I had done. (C)

[I was proud of what I had done in the last few days, and soon people began to approach me

telling me how powerful my art was and thats when I realized that art can have an impact on

everyone. ] This sentence needs improvement because it doesnt really fit into the rest of the

paragraph and the paragraph that follows. The sentence makes sense but it should be placed in

another part of the essay.

(I)After I had gone to my first protest, I was able to see the different types of art that people

had created, hoping to make an impact on other people. I was able to be part of something that

could make a difference in society and that made me feel more motivated to continue to be part

of art activism because I learned that over the time Art has captured an event, clarifying its

existence and representation to society. This sentence is effective because it beings the

narrative to an end in which the reader is able to understand what the character has gone

through and how his beliefs about art have changed. If art has the power to make people think

about an event, then people can also be influenced to do something regarding that event with the

help of art. (C)After that day I was able to see that art can make the world a better place and it is

important for more people to become aware of the power of art in art activism.

One thing that the author does well is the introduction and how the narrative

evolves and is able to keep things interesting. However, one thing that the author could do

better is to rephrase some sentences so make the transitions better, because some sentences

sound odd.
