ABILITY : COULD, BE ABLE TO

1.- We use could to talk about ability in the past

E.G.: SHE COULD RIDE A HORSE WHEN SHE WAS 3
3.- We use was/were able to talk about someones ability to do something in a particular situation.
E.G.: I WAS ABLE TO GET A TICKET FOR THE CONCERT
4.- We cannot use could for particular situation
E.G.: I could GET A TICKET FOR THE CONCERT (wrong)
E.G.: I was able to get a ticket for the concert (right)
5.- We cannot use could for particular situations, but we can use the negative
E.G.: I WAS ABLE TO GET A TICKET FOR THE CONCERT
6.- We cannot use could for particular situations, but we can use negative

We use could to talk about ability could is the past of can. It is a modal verb and it is followed by the infinitive

The negative form of could is could not couldnt is the short form of could not
We form question by putting could before the subject
E.G.: COULD HE PLAY THE PIANO WHEN HE WAS 4?

We answer questions with: Yes, followed by the subject and could, or no, followed by the subject and couldnt
