Durham Nativity School Alumni Dared to Dream

By: Maddy Sullivan

Aaron Harrington, Durham Nativity School class of 2006 graduate, used what he was

taught as a member of DNS to follow his dreams. This past October Harrington returned

to Durham as Tom Collins in the traveling Broadway show of Rent.

The DNS Creed: Dare to Dream Big, Never Give up, and Strive to Excel provides the

foundation of beliefs of what it means to be a DNS man. These words provide comfort

and encouragement to the present students, as well as a solid foundation to many of the

graduates, Arthur Jimmerson, the Durham Nativity School Dean of Students said. He

said that their students come out of the school with this mindset and witness their dreams

become reality.

Harrington did just this. When RENT came to the Durham Performing Arts Center this

fall, Harrington took time to return to the school to speak to DNS students about how he

dared to dream. He stressed the important role that the school played in his success and

urged students to never give up on their dreams.

Harrington and the rest of the company will travel across the U.S. and the world to

celebrate the 20th anniversary of Rent this fall and winter.
