Reflection for Essay 3:

1. What specific part(s) of the rubric do you think you addressed well? Explain.

- I believe that I answered the writing prompt well and I had a strong thesis
with good evidence to back it up. I followed MLA format, and used
different organization for this paper, specifically for my quotes. My
introduction was okay, I did give clear context of who MLK was and what
he did. In my body paragraphs I tried to focus on the strategies used and
the rhetorical deceives. I tried to keep my writing based on what the
writing prompt asked.

2. What specific part(s) of the rubric do you feel the least confident in? Explain.

- I feel like my conclusion needs more work. I tried to do the so what I

think I can develop it more. I did restate my thesis but I didnt give good
examples to why it maters now. Throughout my paper I could have also
added more analyzes and have stronger topic sentences.

3. What grade would you give yourself in EFFORT for this essay? Explain.

- For my both my effort and for what I think the essay is worth, I would
give myself a B because I had strong arguments, had a strong thesis, but I
still have room for improvement. I did understand the text well, and
writing about the strategies that MLK used was something new that I did. I
am used to analyzing what the author is saying, so this paper made me
think about the different ways the author tries to get his message across.

4. Write about an idea that most impacted, changed, or challenged your thinking
from MLK's Letter from a Birmingham Jail. Specifically, consider the following
topics as possible ideas you can comment on:
- What had a big impact on me wad the use of language and the power that
it has. I also saw how non-violent action does have a big effect. Writing
my paper I really thought about the strategies MLK used to try to connect
with the reader. Although his main audience was the 8 clergy men, he
wrote his letter so anyone could connect to it, and understand what he and
the Black community was going through. The nonviolent direct action,
impacted me because of what is going on today. Because of all of the
recent events that just happened, we see how people are expressing
themselves in a non-violet way, now we are slowing starting to see
change. I was able to relate to that, and so the cause and effects of
segregation which were very eye opening. It gave me an insight to what a
divided society can become.

5. How will you use your understanding of rhetorical appeals to help you develop
your own essay and argument writing? Explain.

- Now knowing what rhetorical devices can do, as a writer Im going to

carry this into my writing to try to persuade my reader or audience in to
what Im arguing. As a writer everything that I do should have a purpose,
and seeing how MLK used rhetorical devices gave me an insight to what I
can do to get my message across to my reader.
