Cedar City, Utah Southern Utah University student Alister Mason has returned from his EDGE Project recently over Spring break by travelling to San Jose del Cabo, Mexico. While on this trip, Alister set goals to learn about the various intricacies of their culture. During his trip, Alister travelled through San Jose del Cabo, Cabo San Lucas, and the pueblos surrounding the area. The main significance behind this project is to allow an individual to become more understanding of other cultures than their own. Alister is not alone when he believes that diversity is key in our ever changing society. Alister decided to travel to Mexico in hopes of gaining more understandings of cultures other than his own, and take his first leap towards international travels. This project allowed Alister to see the importance between the diversity of different cultures. While in Mexico, Alister was able see the coast of San Jose del Cabo, the point where the Sea of Cortez meets the Pacific, and travelled into the various pueblos. Additionally, Alister had the chance to barter with the locals, and experience the differences from their commerce system to our own. Alister was able to complete his project and reach his goals of the trip through the help of the EDGE Program provided at Southern Utah University. The EDGE Program is a great way to help students gain experiences that are not only life changing, but can set them apart from other candidates applying from jobs. The projects students can complete could be completing an internship, exploring the outdoors, getting involved in your community and so many other creative projects. Not only is a formal education important, but experiences gained are just as equally, if not more, important.
