8. Approved Objectives:
To develop a theoretical model for the spiral solar collector without
absorber plate and with vacuum chamber.
To fabricate the system and to do experiments to validate the results.
To find the outlet temperature, useful heat gain, instantaneous thermal
efficiency of the collector
9. Detailed Summary:
A spiral solar thermal collector without absorber plate and with vacuum is
considered. The idea of the proposal is to utilize the spiral armed collector.
Vacuum chamber helps in increasing the efficiency since heat loss is less. Use of
spiral tubes over the straight tubes will enhance the convection heat transfer
coefficient thereby creating the secondary flows due to centrifugal force, which
will improve the heat transfer rate by random mixing.
 Mathematical models will be developed for spiral coiled tube solar thermal
collector with vacuum chamber in this current work and solved to evaluate overall
useful heat gain and efficiency of the collector.
