Procedure
Introduction (20 min)
Hook: We are going to do a quick domino warm up.
Transition: I need everyone in an audience facing the white board please, we will be talking
about your next assignment today.
Body (40 min)
Method:

I will need everyone here in an audience facing the white board. Who can give me an example
of a musical? Why do we even make musicals? What are some songs from musicals? (not
Disney). Your next assignment is the 5 Minute Musical Theatre Production. First I want to
go over story moments with you. If you take a moment in a musical, for instance a boy meets
a girl and they fall in love, what kind of song might they sing in that moment? Theyve just
made eye contact and they know that they are each others soul mates. Another moment could
be two rival gangs meet up and have a fight, what kind of song could be happening in that
moment?

This next assignment is all about musicals. In this production you will need these things.
Title, Beat 1-3, curtain call. You will also need to include characters, props, costumes, set, a
script, etc. Assign groups, and hand out handouts.
The rest of class is yours to start working. By the end of class you should have decided
characters, setting and at least 1, if not all of your songs.

Closure (3 min)
Refocus: Next class you will have more time to work on these, Tuesday will be a work period
for you as well.
