Introduction (5 min)
Hook: Today we are starting to learn about Voyageurs!
Goal: Demonstrate understanding of voyageurs through completing a worksheet.
Body (50 min)
Method:

Activity 1:
Finish Voyageur Wanted ads
Read pages 198-199. “Wanted” activity. The North West Company was always looking for
people to hire and would show advertisements such as this. (Show picture of the wanted sign.)
You will all get a blank piece of paper, and will make your own advertisements. Why should
people come to work for the North West company? Your wanted adds should be focused on
Voyageurs only, why should people work for you? You could talk about what the Voyageurs
do, (i.e. do you want to adventure across Canada? Do you like transporting trade goods? Do
you love rowing? Come be a Voyageur with the North West Company!)

Finish Fur trade worksheet.)
Closure (5 min)
Transition to Next Lesson: Great work everyone, what is one thing the Voyageurs did? After
they brought the trade goods to the forts, what did they bring back to Montreal with them?
