Grammar is difficult to define.

There are many approaches to define grammar.
Greek considered grammar as a branch of philosophy. It concerned
with the art of writing.
In traditional sense, grammar is a set of prescriptive rules to set up
standard of correct usage.
But in modern approach is not same to tradition approach.as per
modern approach, It is not merely framing rules.
Some says it is the study of the structure of language.
Some says it is the study of relation of words and phrases in a
sentence.
Some says it is concerned with correct usage in language.
At present, grammar is a scientific study.
It is describe the structure of sentences and the different units
constituting them.
Grammar works on two levels phonology and semantics.
Fundamental units of grammatical structures are morpheme, word,
phrase, clause, and sentence.
Acquaintance (personal knowledge of sm or sth) with facts of
knowledge helps to use language better.
Types of grammar
Traditional grammar: - it is the based on the concept of grammaticality.
It ignores the language spoken by the native
English speaker. The approach is oldest, widely used and the influential
method of language study.
