Unit of Study
Use your hands and motor skills to make a clay art piece, which in this case is a pinch pot.
After they dry, use creativity to paint a wonderful design on it.
Implementation
1. Introduction to Lesson (Hook - simple and quick)
(With all students on the carpet use attention call back to get students attention) Right now we are
going to do a special art project. We are going to use clay (hold up example) to make a pinch pot
just like this one. It is called a pinch pot because I pinched the sides to make the walls of the bowl.
You can make the walls as tall or short as you would like. While half of you are working on the
project the other half will complete a work sheet. After everyone is done we will be able to switch.
Remember dont touch the clay at the table until I say it is okay (dismiss the class accordingly)
Sequence of Activities
1. TTW Introduce the lesson as the students are on the carpet/gathering area.
2./3. SWBAT complete a worksheet independently while the teacher is working with the students
on the project
2./3. SWBAT feel what the clay is like and follow step-by-step instruction to make the clay pots.
4. TTW explain to the students how to make pinch pots. (See attached) making sure to give the
students a minute in the beginning to feel what the clay is like. Put initials on the bottom
to clarify whose is whose. Walk around and monitor if students need help.
5. Half way through lesson switch groups to do other activity.
4. TTW have all the students come back to the carpet for the conclusion.
Closure
So now we are going to let them dry for a week and then we will be able to paint them. (dismiss
students for recess/lunch)
