02/12/17 EDU 1010 Chapter 5: My Philosophy I am currently taking an education class because I am still not sure what grade or subject I want to teach. By taking this class I hope to have a better idea and understanding of where I belong exactly. What I do know is that when I become a teacher I want to motivate my students to obtain a higher education and go beyond then they ever imagined they could. As an educator, I will build a safe environment where my students feel comfortable, supported, and safe no matter their differences. A place where they can express their opinions and thoughts without judgement. A positive learning environment where they will learn the required academic work in a way that is fun for them while still understanding the material that is being taught. I will also apply Social Reconstructionism to my philosophy because its the one that I can mostly relate to and agree with. I would like to teach my students the social issue in todays society as well as social justice meaning that we will be discussing human rights. This will help my students succeed because they will be more aware about the inequalities that exist in our world. I believe that by teaching this in my classroom also will help the students with cultural backgrounds because they will also be more aware. As a teacher I will also be reaching out to diverse students by motivating them and having high exceptions for them as for my other students as well. I will accept and value the cultural differences in the classroom as well. I will being doing a lot of discussions, collaborations, and student projects in my classroom as teaching methods. I dont want my classroom to just be lectures every day and frequent assessments. I also dont want to just focus on academic work I want my students to expand their minds beyond that. That means that the one I cant relate to is perennialism because it teaches mostly western civilization. I feel like by following Social Reconstructionism teaching methods I can help my students succeed in their education and motivate them to become someone who can make a change in our world. I dont have much experience as an educator so I know that as I go and gain more experiences as an educator my philosophy will change and become clearer. But for right now I want to be the kind of educator who motives her students and has high expectations for every single student no matter the situation. I want to be the teacher that I wish I had when I was going to elementary school and had just moved here to a new a country.
