Dear Hiring Committee,

I am writing to recommend Evan Volski for the teaching position he seeks.

As Site Professor for the UCD Urban Community Teacher Education program, I had the pleasure of
watching Evan Volski complete his first internship in a SPED classroom (two days a week for eight
weeks) at Hinkley High School during the spring semester of 2016.

Hinkley is a large Aurora Public School in a suburb of Denver that serves a diverse, urban population.
Among its student body of over 2,000 students, over 70% qualify for free and reduced lunch and 90%
are of minority ethnic groups with close to 30% emerging bilingual learners. Within this dynamic,
challenging environment, Evan diligently applied himself to developing his practice and providing his
students with the best education possible.

As an intern, he consistently demonstrated appropriate professional dispositions. He was

responsible, prepared and clearly communicated his needs.

During his limited time at Hinkley, he applied himself to getting to know his students and adapting his
teaching to best meet their needs. He fostered warm relationships with each one, learned about their
unique learning differences and worked to differentiate accordingly. Evans orientation to education is
clearly student-centered. I watched him effectively design and execute lessons that were inquiry-
based and challenged students to collaborate to construct their own meaning.

Evan deeply cares about his students and holds himself to the highest of standards as their teacher. I
believe he would be a strong addition to any school faculty.

Sincerely,

Julie Carey
