To whom it may concern:

Madeline Koontz is currently student teaching in my fourth grade classroom. She began on
January 24, 2017 and her assignment will end on March 10, 2017. She is responsible for four
sections of Virginia Studies and one section of Word Study, Writing, and Reading.

Miss Koontz has met all of my expectations as a student teacher. She demonstrates confidence
which allows her to work effectively with students and faculty. Maddie is flexible in changes
made in scheduling and manages her time well. She accepts constructive criticism and
implements changes in her lessons. I have been impressed with her maturity and professional
demeanor from the first day I met her.

One of Miss Koontzs strengths is classroom planning. She implements the Virginia Standards of
Learning and follows the Campbell County Pacing Guide when planning instruction. Maddie
uses a variety of activities to differentiate student learning. She plans lessons that meet the
individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students. She is enthusiastic when presenting
the material which helps engage the students attention and interest. Miss Koontz utilizes
technology to engage student learning. Maddie has a great rapport with the students. She
takes the time to develop a relationship with them. The students respond well to her and enjoy
learning. Miss Koontz maintains order and an atmosphere conducive to learning. She
implements my classroom discipline plan consistently and fairly.

Miss Koontz has a positive working relationship with the fourth grade team, as well as other
staff members. Our fourth grade reading class is co-taught. Maddie worked closely with the
special education teacher to plan lessons and assess student progress of skills and strategies for
the Readers Workshop. The other fourth grade teachers accept her as a strong member of our
team. She contributes to our Professional Learning Community and common planning.

I am confident that Miss Koontz will be an asset to any staff that she works with. I believe that
she will continue to grow and become even more effective as a teacher with further
opportunities. Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions at 821-1021 or
