The Chemistry of Dyeing Easter Eggs

How does the amount of vinegar affect the egg dyeing process?

Hypothesis: It is consumed by the egg shell

Materials:

cups of distilled water

6 tablespoons of vinegar
A clean tablespoon
3 white eggs
Food coloring
3 cups
Paper towel
_____________________________

Procedure:
1. Get three beakers and fill each one with (100 mL) of distilled water
2. Label on container 1 tablespoon vinegar, the next 2 tablespoons
vinegar, and the last control.
3. Add a dyeing tablet to each beaker
4. Using a spoon, place a white egg into each beaker.
5. Wait a few minutes, and then remove the eggs, placing each one on a
towel to dry.
6. Look at the eggs. Record in a data table your results.

Analysis and Conclusions

How does the amount of vinegar affect the egg dyeing process?

My hypothesis was supported, so my hypothesis wasnt 100% correct but it is 25%

accurate.
The egg that turned out the brightest in the end was the one with two teaspoons of
vinegar.
The lightest one in the end turned out to be the one with one teaspoons.
I think this happened because the one with three teaspoons was not put in long enough
and was not was not mixed enough.
The ite could have affected the egg dyeing process because of the size of the egg and
the different colors.
I would not change the materials and lab procedure for further analysis.
