Language Arts:
Writing: We read the book Airplane by Bryon Barton.
We talked about how fiction books are different from nonfiction books. We explored
some nonfiction books with a partner and shared our favorite picture from it. In our
writing, we chose a fact about our classroom to create a class book for future Kindergartners
to learn about our room!
Sight words: a, and, be, brown, black, blue, can, dad, green, he, her, his, I, if, in, is, it, love, like,
me, mom, my, no, not, orange, of, on, play, pink, purple, red, see, to, the, that, white, with, yellow,
and yes.
Math:
This past week we worked on recognizing a penny and a nickel. We counted pennies and nickels, we even
combined a nickel and some pennies with a sum of 10! Next week we will talk about features of the dime and
count them, as well as the quarter. We will revisit our graphing and sorting unit. We will count eyes, chairs, and
noses of the people in our room and graph it. We will work on strategies to help us keep track of our counting.
Science:
This week we revisited the needs of a plant in order to stay alive. We talked about the parts of a plant and
their function. Next week we will plant some plants in our classroom to observe over time. We will also begin
our recycling, reducing, and reusing unit. We will start by talking about Earth Day (April 22nd) and ways we can
help keep our Earth clean.
