tasting exploring the wines of New
Zealand, where she had just been
visiting vineyards.
A full weekend of childrens activities
included an egg-hunt, a quest to find
stolen treasure, lamp-making, and a
Childrens Ritual. Trillium is a truly
family-inclusive event.

Druids Garden: the Iris
This time of year
the South East is
bursting with life!
The Iris is one of
Springs showier
blooms in our
region. It is named
for the Greek Goddess Iris, a messenger of
the gods closely connected with Hera. She
may have been considered a personification
of the rainbow. Perhaps the rainbow was
the road she travelled to and from
Olympus, disappearing when she no longer

needed it. It is likely that the plant was
named for the goddess of the rainbow
because it blooms in such a vast array of
colors.
The rhizomes (tuber like roots from which
the plant grows) were mashed and made
into a poultice by American Indians as a
treatment for sores on the legs. While a
useful medicine, consuming too much can
lead to intestinal inflammation and/or
impair breathing (Martin, 33).
