Meeting Agenda Minutes

The meeting was called to order by President Elect Doug Koopman


The Pledge and Prayer was led by President Elect Doug Koopman
Program: Randy Ruhter formerly with Ruhter Auction
Guests: Alisa Pulkamo, Becky Koopman and Tim Cass (father of current outbound
exchange student Sam Cass)

Announcements:
Nate announced that he received a thank you note from Hastings Middle School
for job shadowing and passed it around
Paula announced that she is short two clubs for hosting inbound students and
asked if Sunrise would be willing to host two inbound students for 2017/2018 year.
Discussion was also had on increasing the monthly allowance of these students to
$150 per month.
Motion was made to host two inbound students and to increase the allowance to
$150 per month. Motion carried.
Hastings will be hosting 3 inbound students in all, two by Sunrise one by the Noon
club.
Hastings has 4 outbound exchange students this next year
Dick Witt announced that Alisa will be returning to Finland on May 28 th. There are
still a few things she would like to do such as going to the Omaha Zoo if any
Rotarians are going there in the next few weeks.

Program: Randy Ruhter Ruhter Auction

Randy gave some history about himself how he started auctioneering in 1967 and started
selling realty with Bob Poppe in 1976. He and his wife moved his office to Hastings in
1987 and their office is currently located on Hwy 6 and Marian Rd. Randy said that the
auctioneering business has had its ups and downs, but has been good to his family. His
family gained some notoriety through running the Prosser machinery Auction which they
did for 38 years. Randy stated they would have up to 5,000 buyers at this auction and
sometimes up to 15,000 transactions in a day.

He stated that his company has evolved and embraced technology and they were one of
the first auctioneering companies in Nebraska to move towards fully automated checkouts
through computers. They were also one of the first companies to move their advertising
to their website. Randy sold the company in 2014 to Travis Augustin and Ryan
Samuelson.
