Students will listen to read aloud about the pledge of allegiance, and place Pledge of
Allegiance phrases in order.

1.3.1 Recite The Pledge of Allegiance and sing songs that express American ideals
Common Core Lesson Objective:
SWBAT read and recite The Pledge of Allegiance accurately and place pledge parts in order.

Step-by-Step Anticipatory Set/Orientation


Teachers advises students we will be talking about The Pledge of Allegiance to make
sure we know all of the words correctly and to learn more about what the pledge
means.
Teacher reads I Pledge Allegiance by Bill Martin, Jr.
Think-pair-share one of the words from the pledge and what it means.

THROUGH

Using slides, students will read through parts of The Pledge of Allegiance.
Students will pair-share their favorite part of The Pledge of Allegiance.

BEYOND

Independent Practice/Summative Assessment of Each Students Performance


Students will cut phrase strips of The Pledge of Allegiance, place in order, and glue
to a sheet of paper to show the completed pledge.
Teacher will circulate to CFU.
