Audience Analysis: Rogerian Letter

Please complete the following statements:

a. Describe your persona or role as the author of the letter: Family member of the patient
b. Your audience (your reader) is: Dr. Boudreaux head of hospital
c. You want your audience to: Create more jobs for staff members to ensure better patient care

For each of the following questions, give as many answers as you can.

1. How would your audience describe itself?

Dr. Boudreaux is the head of the West Jefferson Medical Center. He runs a very smooth, and
organized hospital, but lacks staff members.

2. What does your audience value?

My audience values patient care and provides care for the family members.

3. What does this audience fear and/or risk losing?

Dr. Boudreaux fears losing business with his patients. With not having enough staff members, it
is very hard to ensure good patient care.

4. Describe your audiences attitude to the subject of discussion.

He is willing to change certain things, but he does not know where to come up with the money to
hire more people.

5. Why might your audience be opposed to your position/proposal or be reluctant to see things from
your point of view? Can you explain how he/she/they might feel threatened, on some fundamental level,
by your position/proposal?
My audience may be opposed to hiring more people because all of the staff members have to be
paid, and when more people work their there is less money in the budget. Hiring more people is
very difficult because Dr. Boudreaux has to work within the hospitals budget. If he does not hire
more people, he may lose patients that visit the hospital which means losing money for future
things. He may feel as if I am going to report him to authority for lack of care to his patients.
