A. TREASURES FROM GODS WORD

1. The Bible describes a capable wife

a. She is trustworthy

Who can find a capable wife?

Her value is far more than that of corals.

Her husband trusts her from his heart,

And he lacks nothing of value.
(Proverbs 31:10-12)

- A wife has an honorable place as her husbands partner.

- A wise husband will listen carefully to his wifes expressions.
- A capable wife is likened to rare and valuable corals, which in Bible times were
obtained only with considerable effort which is similar to finding a capable wife.
- In her the heart of her owner has put trust
- In other words, he should not insist that his wife obtain his approval in every matter.
- Of course, marriage mates should consult with each other before making major
decisions.

b. She is industrious

She obtains wool and linen;

She delights to work with her hands.

She is like the ships of a merchant,

Bringing her food in from afar.

She also rises while it is still night,

Providing food for her household
And portions for her female servants.

She sets her mind on a field and buys it;

She plants a vineyard from her own labors.

She prepares herself for hard work,

And she strengthens her arms.

She sees that her trading is profitable;

Her lamp does not go out at night.

Her hands seize the distaff,

And her hands take hold of the spindle.

She extends her palm to the lowly one,

And she opens her hands to the poor.

She does not worry about her household

Because of the snow,
For her whole household is clothed in warm garments
She makes her own bed covers.
Her clothing is of linen and purple wool.

Her husband is well-known in the city gates,

Where he sits among the elders of the land.

She makes and sells linen garments

And supplies belts to the merchants.

She is clothed with strength and splendor,

And she looks to the future with confidence.

She opens her mouth in wisdom;

The law of kindness is on her tongue.

She watches over the activity of her household,

And the bread of laziness she does not eat.
(Proverbs 31:13-27)

c. She is a spiritual person who is worthy of praise

Her children rise up and declare her happy;

Her husband rises up and praises her.

There are many capable women,

But you-you surpass them all.

Charm may be false, and beauty may be fleeting,

But the woman who fears Jehovah will be praised.

Give her the reward for what she does,

And let her works praise her in the city gates.
(Proverbs 31:28-31)

- Christian husbands do not need to demand repeatedly that their wives show them
respect.
- Rather, they continue dwelling with them according to knowledge [showing them
consideration; understanding them, ftn];
- They assign them honor as to a weaker vessel, the feminine one.
- In public and in private, husbands show by their respectful words and compassionate
actions that their wives are precious to them.
- Such loving headship wins a wifes love and respect and brings Gods blessing on
the marriage.

B. DIGGING FOR SPIRITUAL GEMS

1. How may we show ourselves to be shrewd regarding entertainment?

The shrewd person sees the danger and conceals himself,

But the inexperienced keep right on going and suffer the consequences.
Proverbs 27:12

- As much as possible, we must avoid entertainment that could either distress us or

may cause us to have righteous indignation. The Bible did not fail to remind us that
times now will be difficult as it is now being fulfilled. Difficulty comes in every form and
it is not necessary for us to dig more about the details.

In my case, I hear or watch news occasionally just to know what I must do in cases of
emergencies or disaster. I dont delve any more than that to avoid being anxious. Ive
been warned by the Bible, I just to do my part and conceal myself.

- I change my mindset. I use to be a fan of UFC because I admire their determination

prepare and win for their fights. As a Christian, I too need that same kind of
determination to endure to win but without the violence.

2. How is a person tested by the praise he receives?

As the refining pot is for silver and the furnace for gold,
So a person is tested by the praise he receives.
(Proverbs 27:21)

- Praise tests us by (1) how are we going to take praises, (2) by how are we going to
keep maintain that something that praised us.

We are all imperfect and some of us are gifted with talents and skills that some
people dont have. However, we should remember Mark 10:18 that read: Nobody is
good, except one, God. Also, 1 Corinthians 4:7 For who makes you different from
another? Indeed, what do you that you did not receive? If, in fact, you did receive it,
why do you boast as though you did not receive it?

Therefore, praises tests us if it will lead us to having pride and cause our stumble.
The answer to this is being humble, remembering the two complimentary verses.
