1895 Roentgen discovered x-ray by

putting hand under the screen and
seeing his bones
1896 Several other people were trying to
discover things including Thomas
Edison
1930s The device that people could use to
see if their shoes fit using x-rays
was around and became popular in
the 1950s, and discontinued in the
1960s because of the high dose
1937 Irving Langmuir patented the image
intensifier
1948 J.W Coltman make it brighter by
1000 times
1953 Medical fluoroscope came into play.
The doctor would look directly into
the screen in a darkened room
1900s Dally began to show lesions and lose
hair, his eyebrows, and eyelashes
1904 Dally died and Edison was so upset
with the whole thing that he quit
working on x-rays
Notebook 10

In a narrative, list and describe the terminology of basic visual physiology

and determine its importance in radiology image illumination.

Photopic- -daylight
Scotopic- night time
Cornea- light passes through the transparent protective coating of the eye
Lens- shaped disk that focuses incoming light onto the retina
Iris- acts like a diaphragm adjusting to control the amount of light coming
into the retina
Rods- nighttime which is viewed peripherally
Cones- daytime (detail, contrast perception, varieties in densities)

The radiologist kept using their rods when viewing x-rays because they were
so dark without the image intensifier. This did not allow them to see many
details so they decided they needed make it possible to use the cones
instead that way they would be able to see details and variations in densities
etc. this is why the image intensifiers were invented.
