Communication

This was a quick elevator pitch in my Effective speaking class that I

took spring semester of my freshman year. This speech was made
to give to a potential employer in under 1 minute displaying my
work qualities and my positive influences that I would bring to an
organization.

Speech Outline Template

Name: Robert Brooks

Topic: Elevator Speech

General Purpose: Sell myself to a potential employer in a short amount of time

Specific Purpose: Discuss why I would be the right fit for the job and how I could improve the
company

Thesis Statement: My mom got laid off of work my senior year of high school so I got my first
job to help provide for my family.

Introduction: Hey, how you doing? My names Robert Brooks and Im currently a student at
Nichols College. I am a Christian man and a family first type of man. I wake up every
morning and thank God for blessing me with the opportunities that I have and the life I was
given.

Transition: When my mom lost her job I took my first job as a maintenance worker my
senior year of high school

I. Topic # 1 My first job

A. I missed my senior year of basketball but knew that I needed to help my

family out so I didnt complain
B. I picked up cigarette butts off the ground 6 days a week
C. When I didnt have enough money for college out of high school I continued to
work maitnance

Transition: A year later my mom found another job and although we didnt have a lot of
money she pushed for me to go to school

II. Topic # 2 My mom and her job

A. My mom hates her job but the only reason she got it was so she could send me to
school
B. I continue to work 6 days a week at my job to help my mom the best I can
C. Everyday my mom shows me what hard work and dedication is

Transition: I have done the low of the low jobs but continue to show up with a smile on face
everyday

III. Topic # 3 Why I should be hired

A. God has faced my family with many problems over the years but together my family
and I have perservered
B. I wake up every morning with a smile on my face because of the life I was given
C. I will come in everyday and give you my honest best

Transition: I am not the smartest man but I am the hardest working man

Conclusion: If I sound like the type of person you would be proud to have as a part of your
company then here is my business card and I would love to sit down and tell you more
